West High’s Dolson moves to Liberty High

NORTH LIBERTY– Liberty High School’s academic and athletic coaching staffs continue to grow ahead of the doors opening in August for the first school year. Principal Scott Kibby announced on Monday, April 10, that West High varsity volleyball coach Randy Dolson had joined his staff as both a special education teacher and as the varsity volleyball coach.

Liberty High Volleyball camps to be held in July and August

NORTH LIBERTY– Sign up now for Liberty High School volleyball camps, to be held in July and August.
The first camp, July 11-13, is for incoming grades sixth through eighth, while the second camp, Aug. 1-3, is for incoming high school students.
The $65 cost includes a T-shirt, but knee pads, shorts and volleyball or tennis shoes are recommended for the camps, which will take place at Liberty High School from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Bur Oak Land Trust Family Day Sunday, May 21

SOLON– Family Day with Bur Oak Land Trust will be hosted on Sunday, May 21, at the Turkey Creek Preserve. Admission is free and refreshments will be offered. There will also be seining in the creek and scavenger hunt with prizes.
Bur Oak Land Trust presents Family Day at Turkey Creek Preserve from 1-3 p.m. at 2545 Sugar Bottom Rd. NE in Solon.
Turkey Creek Preserve is 107.24 acres of woods and former pasture land, including five acres of reconstructed prairie which also has geocache locations.

Tiffin gym raises money for area man’s transplant

TIFFIN– Eric McClintock hadn’t even met the man organizing a fundraiser for his pending heart transplant.
“There are only so many appointments to go to, so many meals you can bring,” said McClintock, who was born with a rare heart defect. “In short of saying hand me cash, this is one way we could tell people who were asking something they can do.”

Trail opening delayed

Sitting water, slope don’t meet ADA standards for use

TIFFIN– With the weather warming up, bikers and pedestrians may be tempted to use the new trail on the south side of town. But, city officials note, that trail is still closed.
“There are people that just go right around the orange fence. I see it every day,” said City Administrator Doug Boldt. “But it is closed off. It’s not ours yet.”
Due to ponding issues on much of the trail, the city has yet to accept the project (Trail Phase Five) from Metro Pavers, which completed construction last October.

Celebrate Bike Month in North Liberty

Bike commuting workshop May 11

NORTH LIBERTY– In honor of Bike Month 2017, Johnson County is sponsoring several events in the area.
One of those is a “How to be a Bike Commuter” workshop at the North Liberty Community Library (520 W. Cherry St.) on Thursday, May 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jon Yetley of Sugar Bottom Bikes will teach you everything you need to know to bike commute, including quick repairs and maintenance.

CCA Senior Awards Assembly Wednesday May 17

TIFFIN– On Wednesday, May 17, at 6:30 p.m., Clear Creek Amana High School hosts its annual Senior Awards Assembly in the high school auditorium. At the ceremony, graduating seniors will be recognized with a presentation of awards and scholarships received.
Parents, family and friends of the Class of 2017 are invited to the to attend.

Tiffin citywide clean-up day May 13

TIFFIN– The City of Tiffin’s city clean-up day will be Saturday, May 13, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. You will be required to bring your items down to the public works facility. If you are unable to bring your items to the city shed, you can schedule a pick-up with the Tiffin Fire Department. The department asks that you pay a fee of $25 per truckload. You will need to pay for the pick-up prior to May 13. Contact City Hall at 319-545-2572 ext. 1 to schedule a pickup. City Hall will only accept cash or check payments. Make your checks payable to the Tiffin Fire Department.
