HELP WANTED

MercyCare Community Physicians, Inc. is an organization that is committed to providing high quality, compassionate healthcare and friendly, exceptional service. We are currently looking for energetic and outgoing people to fill our opening listed below:
Patient Service Coordinator

Walkin'

“If you can’t say something nice about someone, don’t say anything at all,” is instruction I received from my mother early and often as a primer to righteous, Christian living.
If you weren’t sure whether something was “nice” or not, then you applied a simple test: “If you’re embarrassed to say something to somebody’s face then it must not be very nice.”
The Solon school board appears to have adopted a completely different and opposite operating procedure: If we can’t say something nice then let’s go into closed session and say it behind their backs.

Food for Thought

Several friends have remarked that they were surprised to learn that I was one of the panel of speakers at the Johnson County Historical Society a couple of Saturdays ago. The occasion was the opening of an exhibit featuring stories of the towns of Johnson County.
Nobody was more surprised than I was!
Our Solon History Group had put together some photos and text for the project at the request of the project organizers and I had pretty much considered the whole thing done and over with. We were now beginning to collect and sort photos and material for a pictorial book on Solon history.

Looking back at– and forward to– UI Men's hoops

IOWA CITY– The Hawkeye men’s basketball team struggled through a second consecutive losing season going 15-17, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Ten of those losses were by eight points or less, including six by four points or less.
Iowa had two seniors graduate and lost four due to transfer but have five players that started last year.
The Hawks opened strong jumping out 10-4 beating Kansas State, UNI and Iowa State. K-State finished 22-12 and made it to the second round of the NIT. UNI went on to win their conference title and made it to the NCAA tournament.

Guest Opinion from the Iowa House

Fiscal Year 2010 begins on July 1 of this year and the budget recently passed by the Iowa Legislature will go into effect. The State anticipates collecting $6.97 billion. $820 million of that is returned to individuals and businesses in the form of tax refunds and $400 million will be forwarded to school districts which have enacted a 1-cent sales tax. That leaves about $ 5.85 billion available to the State. The Legislature may only appropriate 99 percent of this anticipated revenue, so our $5.77 billion budget constitutes the State’s General Fund.

Guest Opinion

Obama came into office with a major goal of reasserting our reputation as a nation with a high moral code, a nation who trumpets the rule of law and religiously follows the Geneva Convention and the United Nations anti-torture treaty. He thought by closing Gitmo, and stating as strongly as he has our Anti-torture Policy he could put Bush and Cheney’s outrageous torture policies behind us and look forward.
