Mustangs run wild against the Women of Troy

Dbq Hempstead shuts out West, 6-0

IOWA CITY– The Iowa City West High Women of Troy fell to an uncharacteristic 0-4 Thursday, April 12, in their first home match of the 2018 season as the Dubuque Hempstead Mustangs defeated them 6-0.
The Mustangs struck three times in the first half and scored again four minutes into the second half. A Penalty Kick (PK) made it 5-0 for Hempstead with the final goal hitting with 24 minutes remaining in the match.

Liberty girls tie for 5th at Clinton’s relays

CLINTON– Liberty High’s varsity girls track and field team tied for fifth place in team points Tuesday, April 10, in Clinton, at Clinton High School’s Relays. Dubuque Wahlert won the meet with 119 points, Clinton was eighth with 48.5, and City High finished ninth with 31.

Creek Girls pick up first win

CCA defeats S. Tama, 1-0

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity girls soccer team picked up its first win of the 2018 season Friday, April 13, at home against the South Tama Trojans. The Clippers came into the match with an 0-2 record while the Trojans were 1-1.

NL pantry golf tournament Friday, May 4

CORALVILLE– Registration is open for the North Liberty Community Pantry’s 8th Annual 4-Person Best Shot Golf Tournament held Friday, May 4.
Registration is at 7:30 a.m. with final check-in at 8:30 a.m. A shotgun start begins at 9 a.m. followed by a catered meal at 1 p.m. The tournament will take place at the Brown Deer Golf Club at 1900 Country Club Dr. in Coralville. The entry fee is $450 per team, prepaid. This includes a continental breakfast, green fees, a cart, a catered meal, driving range balls and team picture. A silent auction will also take place along with awards ceremony.

CCA Community Clean-up Day Friday, April 27

TIFFIN– The annual Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School Community Clean-up Day will be held on Friday, April 27. CCA High School students from the Student Assistance Team/Interact along with National Honor Society will volunteer their day to help our older community members with yard work, windows, small household chores and general spring cleaning.

Kevin Kinney officially files for re-election

OXFORD –Kevin Kinney filed his official candidacy papers to run for re-election in Iowa Senate District 39.
District 39 includes all of Keokuk County; most of Washington County; and portions of western and southern Johnson County, including the communities of Swisher, Shueyville, Oxford, North Liberty, Tiffin, Frytown and Lone Tree.

Good Neighbor meeting

Southeast corner of Kansas Avenue and St. Andrews Drive

NORTH LIBERTY– The City of North Liberty may soon consider a rezoning and subdivision plat for property, and a public open house-style meeting is being held to explain the proposal. The property is at the southeast corner of Kansas Avenue and St. Andrews Drive (270 Street in Johnson County). The proposal is for a residential subdivision of multi- and single-family lots.
A location map and a concept plan with rezoning proposed by the developer is avaiable at northlibertyiowa.org. This memo is being sent to property owners within 200 feet of the proposed development.

NLCP Planting Party season kickoff April 26

NORTH LIBERTY– Growing Together Garden, North Liberty Community Pantry’s 9,600-square-foot educational garden, invites the community to the annual Planting Party on Thursday, April 26, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Individuals and families are welcome to stop by Growing Together Garden, 89 N Jones Blvd in North Liberty, anytime during the event to learn basic planting skills, put seeds in the ground, or simply tour the garden space. Snacks and gardening equipment will be provided. All ages welcome and no gardening experience required, in fact, beginning gardeners are encouraged to attend.
