Moore’s 34 points carry CCA to win

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity boys improved to 8-11 with a non-conference win Thursday, Feb. 8, at home, against West Branch. The Clippers beat the Bears, 83-79, with a 34-point effort from senior Darius Moore.
The Creek Boys held a slim lead throughout the contest, winning the first period, 24-23, and holding a 38-36 halftime advantage.
Jordan Wolfe contributed 15 points, while Tyler Schrepfer had a 10-point night for the Clippers. Nick O’Connor led the squad in rebounds with seven, while Moore made five assists.
The Bears dipped to 12-9.

Norwalk takes down IC West

Warriors deny Trojans a trip to state duals

WAUKEE– Iowa City West High Trojan wrestlers were denied the opportunity to compete in the 2018 State Dual Team Tournament by the Norwalk Warriors in a Class 3A Regional Dual Meet Wednesday, Feb. 7, in Waukee. Norwalk defeated West High, 55-18. The Norwalk Warriors fell victim to the Waukee Warriors, 55-12, however, sending Waukee to the state duals.

Bolts shock Mustangs

Liberty survives foul trouble to defeat Independence, 54-43

NORTH LIBERTY– The Lightning of Liberty High flashed triumphantly Saturday, Feb. 10, with a 54-43 upset varsity boys basketball win over the visiting Mustangs of Independence. It was the third-straight win for the “Bolts” with wins over Washington (Iowa) and Wapsie Valley preceding. Independence (Indee) dipped to 14-8 with a three-game winning streak snapped by the Bolts. Indee had disposed of Clear Creek Amana, Williamsburg and Dyersville Beckman Catholic (by one point).

CCA school board and Tiffin City Council hold third joint session

TIFFIN– Tiffin’s City Council and the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) School Board of Directors held their third joint meeting Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Tiffin Elementary. The entities first held a joint session in December of 2016 and met last August.

Open house to highlight infrastructure

NORTH LIBERTY– This year, North Liberty will make major improvements to key infrastructure, including Ranshaw Way (Highway 965). Once completed, these infrastructure upgrades will increase transportation capacity, add pedestrian connectivity, provide recreational amenities and replace aging infrastructure in our growing community.

Optimists host pancake breakfast March 3

NORTH LIBERTY– The Optimist Club of North Liberty hosts its 45th annual pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, in the North Liberty Community Center, 520 W. Cherry St.
Proceeds benefit more than a dozen North Liberty youth programs, as all Optimist clubs have a mission to be “friends of youth.”
The breakfast is the North Liberty club’s largest annual fundraiser. Tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for kids ages 3-10. Admission is free for children age two and under.

NORTH LIBERTY– Three of the City of North Liberty’s appointed boards have openings, and volunteers are needed to help lead and advise on those commissions. Applications are due Feb. 16, 2018.
Applications are available online at northlibertyiowa.org or at City Hall, 3 Quail Creek Circle. Completed applications can be mailed to City Hall; c/o City Clerk; P.O. Lady Spartan coach Bishop resigns

SOLON– Lisa Bishop, head girls basketball coach at Solon High School, resigned Monday, Feb. 12, according to Solon Community School District Activities Director Zach Wigle.
“She met with current players earlier today to notify them,” Wigle said in an email.

Solon falls prey to Panthers, 73-46

MONTICELLO– The Solon Lady Spartans bid adieu to the 2017-18 Basketball season on Saturday, Feb. 10, following a first-round loss to the Monticello Panthers, 73-46, after ending their regular season on the road Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Mount Vernon, with a loss to the Mustangs, 44-19.

Postseason begins Monday, Feb. 19, hosting Keokuk

SOLON– It was another close win for the Solon boys.
The Spartan varsity basketball team avenged a January road loss with a 67-62 home victory over Mount Vernon Feb. 6.
Solon jumped out to a first-quarter lead, but the two teams battled back and forth in a see-saw affair throughout the game.
The Spartans actually trailed early, but hopped back into the game thanks in part to some early offense from senior Luke Schaeckenbach.
