West defeats City, 8-1

Women of Troy defeat Little Hawks and J-Hawks

IOWA CITY– Iowa City West High’s varsity girls (including players from Clear Creek Amana, Mid-Prairie and Liberty High) remained undefeated on the tennis courts after knocking off rival City High and the J-Hawks of Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
The Women of Troy wore “Live Like Line” T-shirts in honor of the late Caroline Found Tuesday, May 1, as they met the Little Hawks at the University of Iowa’s Tennis Complex for their annual dual meet. Dr. Ernie Found (Caroline’s father) was honored for his continuing support of West High athletics, including the tennis program. West defeated City, 8-1.

Trojans give Prairie Hawks their first loss

West’s Frisbie scores in double OT, 2-1

CEDAR RAPIDS– The Iowa City West High varsity Trojans handed Cedar Rapids Prairie its first loss of the season on Monday, April 30, at Prairie’s John Wall Stadium with a 2-1 win in sudden death overtime (OT).
The win dipped the Prairie Hawks to 7-1 and improved West’s record to 8-3.
Prairie struck first with a long-ball goal in the 30th minute by Matthew Walter. Shortly after, Gada Ambo tied the match with a cross kick from the right side into the back corner of the Prairie net. A stalemate ensued through the rest of the first half and all of the second half leading to overtime.

Intersection closure: Cherry Street east of Ranshaw Way

NORTH LIBERTY– Beginning Wednesday, May 9, Cherry Street is closed just east of Ranshaw Way. The closure is required so crews can reconstruct the east side of the intersection.
The contractor is required to limit the length of the closure, and expects the work to last about three weeks.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured along Penn and Stewart streets. All businesses will remain open.
The Cherry Street underpass will remain open until Monday, May 14, when it is expected to close for four days.

Cherry and Front streets get a four-way stop

NORTH LIBERTY– For years, the intersection of Cherry and Front streets has been the subject of much discussion, debate – and frustration – with regular requests to turn it into a four-way stop.
However, a past study by the Metropolitan Planning Organization of Johnson County (MPOJC), which the City of North Liberty relies on for help analyzing and planning for traffic, found that accident rates and traffic volumes were both low and the intersection didn’t justify changes. This study is available on northlibertyiowa.org.

Brewing with Dunn Brothers

Cafe opens south of Forevergreen Road

CORALVILLE– Between the morning rush to get out the door and the push to get through traffic, there are few greater needs than to be fully caffeinated. With a new coffee shop in town, those needs are being fully taken care of. Alexandra and DeAngelo Seay moved to the Corridor to pursue their goal of creating a place to bring family and friends together over a delicious cup of coffee. They achieved this goal by opening their own franchise location for Dunn Brothers Coffee.

IOWA CITY– The Johnson County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the proposed Comprehensive Plan Thursday, May 10, at 5:30 p.m. The hearing is the latest step in what has been a nearly two-year process in crafting the document; the first of it’s kind for the county.
