Recently added to the library’s DVD collection:

The Lincoln Lawyer (2011, R) An exciting legal thriller based on the best-selling novel by Michael Connelly.  The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei and Ryan Phillippe.
Insidious (2010, PG13) Horror fans will want to check out this story about a  family who looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further.

Solon school district begins registration process

SOLON– For the 2011-12 school year, Solon Community Schools will be once again be using an e-registration process accessible through PowerSchool. As part of this process, letters with new access IDs were sent to all families in July 2010.  This is the same login information parents of middle school and high school students use to check grades via PowerSchool.  Parents of kindergarten students will be mailed access IDs and passwords the week of July 18.

SOLON– It’s back to Ft. Dodge for the Lady Spartans.
Solon’s varsity softball team won a berth in the 2011 State Softball Tournament last week with wins over Marion and Mt. Vernon in regional postseason play.
The Lady Spartans (34-7) are scheduled to face Winterset (30-10) in the first round of the state tournament Tuesday, July 19 (subsequent to the publication of this edition), at Rogers Park in Ft. Dodge.
If Solon wins, the Lady Spartans advance to a Thursday semifinal at 3:30 p.m. Thursday; a loss sends them to the consolation bracket Wednesday at 12 p.m.

Spartans eye return trip

SOLON– The Spartans powered into the postseason last week, aiming for a return to the State Baseball Tournament in Des Moines and a possible repeat as champions.
But there are still a few obstacles in the way.
The Solon varsity baseball squad scored 32 runs in a doubleheader win Wednesday against Center Point-Urbana (CPU) to close out the regular season and then started off the second season with a 6-0 win over Mt. Vernon Friday night.

IOWA CITY– Both Cedar Rapids and Iowa City are recognized as “Best Places for Businesses and Careers” in Forbes magazine’s newest “best of” list.  Cedar Rapids ranks number 11 out of the two hundred largest metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) and Iowa City ranks number 13 among smaller metros (below 245,000 in total population.)

Cruis’n for Kids Car Show July 23

IOWA CITY– The fourth annual Cruis’n for the Kids Car Show will host over 150 classic and vintage cars from all around Iowa. The cars will be on display Saturday, July 23, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at The University of Iowa Kinnick Football Stadium Krause Family Plaza, Iowa City.
