Main Street may lack holiday decorations

SOLON– Solon’s Main Street may not look quite as festive this holiday season.
The Christmas decorations traditionally attached to utility poles on Solon’s main thoroughfares are apparently not compatible with the period lighting being added as part of a Main Street reconstruction project.
As a result, there may be no holiday lights hanging around downtown.
Members of the Solon City Council discussed the pending problem at a special meeting Aug. 29, but no solution was reached.

SOLON– Fourth graders volunteered as tour guides during a Friday night open house showcasing Lakeview Elementary’s new expansion and renovations completed over the summer after about two years of work.
The old music and art rooms were made over into new classrooms and new art, music, kindergarten, first grade and preschool rooms make up the west-side addition.
Second grade students (and teachers) rejoiced as they will not have to use the two temporary buildings which will eventually be removed from the school grounds.

Solon’s varsity football team was firing on all cylinders Friday night, defeating Clear Creek Amana 45-7 in Tiffin.
The Spartans scored three times in the first quarter and three more times in the third to snag their first conference win of the season, moving to a 3-1 record overall.
“I believe we controlled the line of scrimmage and that was fundamental to the outcome of the game,” noted head coach Kevin Miller.  “When we are able to sustain and control the line of scrimmage we are a very solid football team.”

Run for freedom

IOWA CITY– When Terri Carmouche of North Liberty joined the Marines, she expected to see the world abroad. She anticipated exposure to new cultures and new experiences.
She wasn’t prepared, however, to witness firsthand the salacious horror of school-aged children being sold for sex.
