North Liberty man arrested for his role in Iowa City bank robbery

IOWA CITY– Iowa City Police have made the first arrest in regards to the robbery of American Bank and Trust, 551 Westbury Dr.

MidAmerica Hobbies owner seeks deed from city

NORTH LIBERTY– The owner of a local hobby store, claiming to have unfinished business with the city, aired his frustrations in a public meeting July 14.
Bill Kiesel, owner of MidAmerica Hobbies in North Liberty, approached the North Liberty City Council to recount a 2006 agreement between the City, an agreement that Kiesel said includes a transaction that has yet to occur.

Making progress: CCA schools taken off “watch list”

OXFORD — Clear Creek Amana (CCA) monthly school board meetings open with good news, typically a brief report on a fine arts program, athletic, or academic accomplishment. For the July meeting, District Superintendent Dr. Paula Vincent delivered some much anticipated good news on the academic front: none of the CCA schools are currently on the U.S. Department of Education’s watch list for troubled schools.

Francis R. \Frank\ Dunn

Francis R. \Frank\ Dunn, 81, of Platteville, Wis., passed on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Platteville. The Rev. Edmond Dunn and Monsignor Charles Schluter officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Platteville.
Memorials may be made to the Francis R. Dunn Memorial Fund. 



Carol Ann Huberty

Carol Ann Huberty, 72, of Dyersville, died Monday, July 13, 2009, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque from complications of diabetes.
Funeral services were held Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial at the church cemetery. Rev. Phil Kruse officiated.
Carol was born May 22, 1937, in Petersburg, the daughter of Clem and Thecia (Gerken) Bruggeman. She married Thomas R. Huberty on July 9, 1955 in Dyersville. Carol retired in 1989 as a supervisor at Modernfold in Dyersville.

Jean Campbell Kupka

Jean Campbell Kupka, 90, of Iowa City passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Jean was formerly the Ticket Manager at the Iowa Athletic Department.

NL Jaycees host blood drive Saturday, July 25

AARP Driver Safety Program on Wed., Aug. 5

IOWA CITY—Is it time to tune up your driving skills? Attend the AARP Driver Safety Program on Wednesday, Aug. 5 sponsored by the Hills Bank Friends Club. This classroom refresher course, which is open to everyone, will teach defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws, and rules of the road. Especially designed for drivers age 50 and over, you’ll find out how to adjust your driving to normal, age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time. There are no tests, and course completion may even entitle you to an insurance discount.

Bickford Senior Living hosts dementia care workshop Friday, July 24
