CCA Masters golf outing/fundraiser June 24

AMANA– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Masters Golf Outing is a fundraising event for scholarships and endowments for CCA students. The outing will be held Friday, June 24, at the Amana Colonies Golf Course, 451 U Ave. There is a $100 per player or $400 per four-person team entry fee that can be paid the day of the tournament.

CCA falls, 6-3, but rallies for 14-12 win

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) Clippers moved to 5-6 overall on the 2016 varsity baseball season with a split at home Monday, June 6, against the Marion Indians. The Indians took the opening half of a doubleheader, 6-3, but Cappy’s Boys rallied back from a 9-0 deficit in the nightcap and converted it into a 14-12 win.

CCA falls, 5-1, and takes baseball nightcap, 10-8

MOUNT VERNON– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers visited the Mount Vernon Mustangs for an evening of varsity baseball Wednesday, June 8, and came home with a split after an 18-run slugfest.
The Clippers dropped the opener, 5-1, after the Mustangs took a three-run lead in the bottom of the first inning and added two more in the second. The sole CCA run came in the top of the third as Kobey Schlotman scored on a Jake Neubauer sacrifice ground ball.

OXFORD– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity softball team bounced back from a disappointing appearance in the West High Softball Classic with a sweep of the visiting Marion Indians Monday, June 6. The Creek Girls took both halves of a doubleheader with 2-1 and 4-1 showings.

DeWITT– The Creek Girls from Clear Creek Amana (CCA) traveled to Clinton County and Central Clinton-DeWitt High School Wednesday, June 8, for a varsity softball doubleheader and returned home with a split. The host Sabers took the opener, 11-6, while the Clippers won the nightcap, 5-1.

NLRC to host Prime Time, Game Time basketball leagues

Games start June 30 and feature college, overseas players

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Center will host the 30th season of the men’s Prime Time Basketball League (PTL), as well as the women’s Game Time League (GTL) this summer. The leagues feature players from the University of Iowa, the University of Northern Iowa, as well as other local colleges, high schools and overseas professionals.
The public is invited to visit North Liberty to watch the fast-paced action since the games will not be televised. Admission to the games is free and open to the public with limited bleacher seating.

Cappy’s Boys sunk by the Sabers

CCA drops doubleheader 10-0 and 5-0 to Central DeWitt

TIFFIN– The Clippers found themselves in trouble early in a varsity doubleheader at home Friday, June 10, against the Sabers of Central DeWitt. The Sabers put up seven runs in the second inning of game one, three more in the third and shut-out the Clippers for a fifth-inning mercy rule ending.
It was a tough loss for sophomore pitcher Alex Goedkin as he gave up eight hits and 10 earned runs over three innings of work. Camden Smyka, a freshman, relieved Goedken for the final two innings with a pair of strikeouts. Jake Neubauer had the Clippers’ only hit of the game, a single.

No repeat for Women of Troy

IC West falls 2-1 to Ankeny Centennial in state 3A championship soccer

DES MOINES– The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) went to three classes (up from two) for varsity soccer in 2011. Since that time, no team has won back-to-back state championships in Class 3A.
Not even the Women of Troy from Iowa City West High.

NL fire dept. Open House and grill-out June 18

NORTH LIBERTY– The NLFD would like to open its doors and invite the community to come see the firehouse and get to know the firefighters and the equipment on Saturday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be fun and interactive “firefighting” games and demonstrations for all ages. The fire department will also be grilling out and serving lunch.

NL Community Pantry 4th Annual Turkey Trot

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Pantry will hold the Fourth Annual Thanksgiving in July Turkey Trot 10k/5k Races and Family 1 Mile Event on Saturday, July 9, at 8 a.m. All proceeds will go to the pantry as part of the community-wide Thanksgiving in July (TGIJ) efforts.
