Cab service in the works for North Liberty

Transit Committee hoping for wheels on the ground by November

NORTH LIBERTY– The City of North Liberty is working quickly towards green-lighting a new demand-response cab service for the less mobile population.
“The voters of North Liberty have demanded that we do something about transit,” said Gerry Kuhl, former acting Mayor of North Liberty, 10-year member of the city council and current member of the Transit Committee. Kuhl is eager to get wheels turning on the project, first introducing an RFP (request for proposal) in September.

Clear Creek Amana’s Homecoming Parade

TIFFIN– Royal blue emblazoned Tiffin as Clear Creek Amana held its annual Homecoming Parade Thursday, Sept. 20, in Tiffin.
Led by Oxford American Legion Post 537 and Clear Creek Area Boy Scouts, the parade included members of the FFA, CCA marching band, football teams, volleyball, trap shooting and other organizations. The parade weaved its way from the baseball fields at Tiffin City Park past CCA Middle School and concluded at CCA High School, where a pep rally began at dusk.

Neither Broghammer nor Mooney had challengers and were re-elected on a voice vote.

Interstate progress for North Liberty and the greater Corridor

JOHNSON COUNTY– Those eagerly awaiting the Forevergreen Road interchange will be happy to know progress is moving at a steady pace.
“The bridge is on schedule and is almost done,” reported Newman Abuissa, Field Engineer for the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT), District 6. The project in its entirety is expected for completion winter 2019.

Liberty High celebrates one-year anniversary and Homecoming ‘18

NORTH LIBERTY– Liberty High School held its second annual Homecoming Parade Wednesday, Sept. 26, in North Liberty. A Family Fun Night, celebrating the one-year anniversary of the new high school, preceded the parade.
Hot dogs were grilled by Matt Zacek of Z’s Catering and BBQ, of North Liberty, with ice cream and 1,000 chocolate chip cookies donated by Heyn’s Ice Cream of North Liberty and the Coralville Hy-Vee. Bounce Party Supplies LLC, in Iowa City, donated one bouncy house, while the Liberty Lightning Booster Club paid for a second inflatable.

CCA Board approves plans for new Transportation Facility in Tiffin

OXFORD– The board of directors for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Community School District has approved the design of a new transportation facility and sent the project out for bid. The board took the action Wednesday, Sept. 19, during the regular monthly meeting at Clear Creek Elementary in Oxford.

Construction planned for spring 2019

TIFFIN– Looking to keep up with the demands of being the fastest growing city in the state, Tiffin is preparing to start development of its first roundabout.
To be constructed at the intersection of Marengo Street/Highway 6 and Park Road, the roundabout anticipates the new elementary school currently under construction, to be ready for classes August 2019, as well as growth at the adjacent Tiffin Elementary School.

Kernels for the Kids opens the season at Colony Pumpkin Patch

NORTH LIBERTY– The Colony Pumpkin Patch, in North Liberty, has been bringing smiles to families for 13 years. However, another group in the area is zeroing in on 25 years of brightening the lives of families and giving them reasons to smile. Colony partnered with the University of Iowa (UI) Dance Marathon this season for a special corn maze honoring the marathon’s 25th anniversary (in February 2019). The patch opened the 2018 season donating admission on Sunday, Sept.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters Need Volunteers!

SOLON/NORTH LIBERTY– Blasting bottle rockets outside, making ice cream in a bag, and roasting marshmallows over a campfire are just a few of the fun, hands-on activities youths have experienced during the 4-H/Big Brother Big Sisters (BBBS) after-school club at North Central Junior High in North Liberty. After four years of growth and refinement, this youth development program partnership is expanding to Solon Middle School this fall, beginning Thursday, Sept. 27.
