Thomas R. Prochaska, 64, of Dubuque, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at home. Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 14, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Dubuque. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 13, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dubuque.


Marguerite Susan Ludvicek

Marguerite Susan Ludvicek went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, following a brief illness. She will be missed by her six children, seven grandchildren, and anyone else who had the blessing to have known her.
Her celebration of life was Thursday, Dec. 17, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Burial followed in Castek Cemetery, near Swisher. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Karen J. Kleese, 70, of Washington, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City following a sudden illness.
Celebration of life services were held Monday, Dec. 21, at the United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 20, at the Jones-Eden Funeral Home. Interment was at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the United Presbyterian Church in Washington or the Central Park Senior Center. Prince Hudson Jr.

Prince Hudson Jr., 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009. Memorial service was Monday, Dec. 14, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Entombment was in Linwood Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Donna; his daughter, Cynthia Sue (Wendell) Gould of Cedar Rapids; grandson, Jared David (Jessica) Gould of Palo; two sisters, Viola Coffelt of Perryville, Mo., and Edna Seeman of Cedar Rapids; and his nephew, Jerry (Janet) Happel of North Liberty.


Robert L. Heath

Robert L. Heath, 55, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton following a long illness. Visitation was Sunday, Dec. 20, followed by a memorial service at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader.
Bob is survived by Betsy Zein, Elkader; sons, Robert (Laura) Heath, Los Angeles, Calif., Thomas Heath, Cedar Rapids and Matthew Heath, Iowa City; stepdaughter, Erin Zein, North Liberty; his mother, Shirley Shedd, Crystal Lake, Ill; siblings Rhonda (Joe) Palshis, Rory Heath and Randy (Diane) Shedd, all of the Chicago area; and several nieces and nephews.

Russell Lynn “Bud” Colony, 92, of rural Tiffin, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Atrium Village in Hills. Memorial services were held Monday, Dec. 21, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin with the Rev. Beverly Marshall-Goodell and the Rev. Marlene Janssen officiating. Charles Butteris

Charles “Chuck” Butteris, 54, of Olin, formerly of Lisbon, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, in Genesis Memorial Hospital, Davenport from a cardiac arrhythmia. A memorial service for Chuck was held Saturday, Dec. 19, at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices by Celebrant Mary Morgan. Visitation was before service time at the funeral home. Burial was in Lisbon Cemetery.


Greg Bredlau

Greg Bredlau, 55, of Iowa City, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at home from cancer. Visitation was Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. A private memorial service and burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, The Ronald McDonald House, or the Hope Lodge.
Greg was born Dec. 11, 1953, in Loyal, Wis., the son of Robert and Marcella (Oehler) Bredlau.


The Hawkeye men and women host Drake Bulldogs

IOWA CITY– The outside shots were falling, the defense stepped up in the second half, the inside game was clicking and the Hawks took care of the ball…oh yeah and Matt Gatens was the man.
That all added up to Iowa’s 4th win of the season, 71-67 over instate rival Drake.
This could be the most complete game of the Hawkeyes season against a pretty good team that had won three straight.
We’ll do a little good, bad and ugly on the game last Saturday.


Food for Thought

I’ve reached the stage in my life where I have no answer when somebody asks me what I want for Christmas. I can think of very few things that I want – and nothing that I actually need. It’s easier to tell them what I DON’T want. Those things are numerous, and I suspect there are a number of people in circumstances similar to mine, who may feel the same as I do about Christmas gifts.
