OXFORD — “As times change, so do our attitudes,” said CCA athletic director Gene Dietrich as he addressed the regular monthly school board meeting Jan. 21. Dietrich was referring to a time roughly two years ago when the subject of sponsorship and/or selling advertising to help pay for athletics was first brought up.
“This is something that I’ve fought tooth and nail for about a year,” he said. “With budget crunches and everything else, you look at every possible way to raise money.”


New sports intern joins Hybrid Publications

NORTH LIBERTY– Sean Morgan, a senior Journalism student at the University of Iowa, has joined the staff of the Solon Economist and the North Liberty Leader newspapers as a sports writer/photographer intern.
Originally from Libertyville, Ill., Sean plans a career in sports writing and hopes to one day become an author of some sort.


“No current plans” for changing Golfview Mobile Home Park

NORTH LIBERTY– Residents of Golfview Mobile Home Park in North Liberty approached North Liberty’s city council last Tuesday with one very grave concern.
“There are rumors going around about Golfview association selling the land that we lease, and I’m kind of worried,” said Mollie Oakes of Golfview Drive. “The state of Iowa tells us if we get an eviction notice, we have 60 days to move our mobile homes.”
Oakes and a neighbor, Dean Wade, both told the council rumors are “flying” that the current owners of Golfview Mobile Home Park plan to sell or re-zone the land for commercial development.


Court rules against Coralville in proposed annexation

JOHNSON COUNTY– The City of Coralville lost the first round in a much-disputed annexation case filed by rural Johnson County residents.
Judge Douglas S. Russell of Iowa’s Sixth Judicial District Court ruled Tuesday, Jan. 27, that the City of Coralville failed to follow the procedures required by Iowa Code to give adjacent residents proper notice in the annexation proceedings of 386.9 acres of land near the east edge of North Liberty, known as Scanlon Farms.
