SOLON– The Solon Athletic Booster Club will hold its clothing open house Wednesday, Dec. 7, from 4 until 7 p.m. in the Solon High School commons.

Thank you to all who supported the Middle School fall fundraiser. Your generosity helps with purchases and activities for our students. A special thank you goes out to the volunteers who assisted in the bookkeeping and in the prize store.
Thank you to the volunteers who provided baked goods for the lock-in and dance. Also, thanks to the volunteers who helped chaperone.

Congratulations to the Solon dance teams

Solon High School and Middle School dance teams attended Stack the Stands competition Saturday, Oct. 29, at Prairie High School. The high school team received an excellent rating and first place in the kick category and the middle school team received a good rating and second place in the junior high category. Great job dancers.


College Planning Night for juniors Nov. 21

College Planning Night for juniors and their parents will be held on Monday, Nov. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the high school commons. The purpose of this event is to help juniors and parents prepare for a variety of post-secondary options. Topics that will be covered include: career exploration and planning, college selection process, college visit process, college admissions process, choosing a major and basic financial aid information. If you cannot attend this session, you can still receive handouts from Mr. Thompson.


Alternative high school counseling office hours

In an attempt to meet the needs of parents outside the normal school day hours, Mr. Thompson is scheduling one day in each of the upcoming months where he will change his office hours. The next date is Thursday, Nov. 17, when he will be at school from 12-8 p.m. If parents want to come in and talk with him about a child’s schedule, career plans, social needs, etc., feel free to drop in. If parents wish to schedule an appointment, he can be contacted either by phone at 624-3401, ext. 1117 or by email at mithompson@solon.k12.ia.us.

“Attack the Block” (2011, R, Action/Comedy/Sci-Fi) It’s inner-city vs. outer space. A teen gang in South London defends their block from an alien invasion.
“Life in a Day” (2011, PG13) A documentary shot by filmmakers all over the world that serves as a time capsule to show future generations what it was like to be alive on July 24, 2010.
“Crazy, Stupid, Love” (2011, PG13, Romantic Comedy) A father’s life unravels while he deals with a marital crisis and tries to manage his relationship with his children. Starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore.


Tree decorating contest begins

The last decorated tree is in place in the reading area at the west end of the library, so let the contest begin. Entries have been received from individuals, families, clubs and businesses with proceeds from the event benefiting Solon Habitat for Humanity.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place as well at the Humanity Award. Trees will be judged for placement by the tree committee. The newly formed tree judging committee will take the place of the public vote from previous years. The community will vote for the Humanity Award.
