One more winter

SHUEYVILLE– Commuters and residents will have to wait a few months more for the reconstruction of 120th St. from this northwest Johnson County community west toward I-380.
Plans for the project have been reviewed, according to Mayor Bryan Bredman, and are currently being finalized.
“All necessary permits have been acquired and we anticipate a January-February time frame for bid letting, with construction then beginning in the spring of 2012,” Bredman said.


Honor, valor, sacrifice

NORTH LIBERTY– Veterans Day was declared a national holiday– originally Armistice Day– in 1919, to mark the signing of the agreement that ended WWI.
But for veterans of war, it is never over.
Even those who serve in our nation’s military in times of peace know loss, hardship, and the strength of a fraternity that no amount of time or separation can weaken.
That familiarity with sacrifice was evident during the North Liberty American Legion Auxiliary’s annual Veterans Day dinner, held Nov. 15 at the South Slope Community Room in North Liberty.
Also evident was gratitude.


West girls 3-0 with road win

DUBUQUE— The Women of Troy picked up a road win Tuesday night, Nov. 29, at Senior High in Dubuque. West pounded the Rams 85-48 after taking an early 19-2 lead and being up 24-9 at the half.
The win put West at a 3-0 record overall, 1-0 in the MVC.


Clipper girls 1-1 to start season

EPWORTH— Coach Matt Haas’ Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers opened the season with a home win Tuesday, Nov. 22, against Maquoketa but fell a week later at Epworth against Western Dubuque for a 1-1 record.
The Clippers plucked the Cardinals 63-49 in an effort led by Fran Strub and her 22 points. Freshman Hannah Stokes scored a lucky 13 while Caitlin Wnek had 10. Tara Walls added six points as did Grace Chabal. Maliah Fligg and Mallory Neubauer both had three points in the win as well.


CCA grapplers open with two losses

ANAMOSA— The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers opened the 2011-2012 wrestling season with a triangular meet against the home Raiders and Stormin’ Pointers of Center Point-Urbana (CPU).
The meet also marked the debut of new Clipper coach Jared Carder.
The Pointers took the first dual with a decisive 60-23 victory. Tyler Kasper earned a 15-0 Technical Fall over CPU’s Brennan Henderson in a 138-pound match while Casey Rohret pinned CPU’s Kevin Chila in 1:22 at 220-pounds. A CPU forfeit to Carter Carew at 120-pounds rounded-out the Clippers’ points.


Young guns

TIFFIN— There’s a new sheriff in town. Jared Carder has taken over as Coach of the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity wrestling program. This marks the third coach in as many seasons for the program which sent two to State last season: Tyler Walls (189 pounds) and Tyler Grauer (215 pounds). Walls came home with a seventh place finish, Grauer placed eighth.


Optimist Club to host inflatables to raise funds for cancer patients

NORTH LIBERTY– Enjoy some time with family and have fun with many Christmas-themed inflatables in the North Liberty Recreation Center on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Roberts Gym. The event is hosted by the Optimist Club of North Liberty. Free-will offering will be used to send children with cancer to camp.


Breakfast with Santa this Saturday

NORTH LIBERTY– Santa will be waiting for the kids to enjoy breakfast, a craft, special holiday movies and a picture this Saturday, Dec. 10, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the North Liberty Recreation Center. The North Liberty Lions Club will provide a breakfast of pancakes, eggs and sausage. For ages infant through 10 years. Fee is $3 per person. (One year and under free). Bigger, better business

NORTH LIBERTY– AlphaGraphics in North Liberty has gone larger, in more ways than one.
The print and small business services center that opened in 2008 at 720 Pacha Parkway in North Liberty has grown enough to warrant an expansion into the available commercial space next door, nearly doubling its square footage and adding a new large-format printer. AlphaGraphics now has more space to offer its wide range of services and products, including marketing assistance and communication solutions, self-publishing options, design and creation of print products, website design and mailing services.
