CCA hopes to make noise

TIFFIN– Coach Jane Astor returns eight starters to the boys’ line-up this season and five to the girls’ squad as the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers engage in WaMaC cross country action this fall. Astor, assisted by Joe Graf, has 20 years of experience guiding CCA in cross country as well as track and field.


Strong mix returns for West

IOWA CITY– The Iowa City West Trojans look to “fly under the radar for a while this season,” according to Coach Brian Martz. The Trojans have a strong mix of juniors and seniors coming back to lead the way. Seniors Ben Fick, Lincoln Rozeboom, Bennett Thompson and Daniel Seabra will provide leadership with juniors Isaac Jensen, Bailey Wetherell and Joseph Malanson. Sophomore Daniel Gardarsson also returns to forefront of Trojan running.


CCA returns to gridiron

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers, under Coach Rodney Walls, are gearing up for their 2011 gridiron campaign. Last season the men in blue put up a 6-5 record and made it as far as the second round of Class 3A Playoffs, where rival Williamsburg ended the Clipper season with a 65-35 pounding.


CCA looks to keep building on improvement

TIFFIN– In his third year at the helm of the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity volleyball team, Coach Brian Bronzynski sees his Clippers “right in the thick of the race.”
Last year, the Clippers posted a 16-11 record overall and 4-3 in the WaMaC, and picked up their first Regional win in ten years over Washington. In addition, the team qualified to play in the Championship bracket of the WaMaC Conference Tournament and brought home second place finishes from the West Branch and Anamosa Invitational. CCA also took first place in the WaMaC West Sophomore Tournament.


IC West VB team determined to weather the storm

IOWA CITY– It will be a challenging season for the Iowa City West High Women of Troy.
The 2011 campaign started on a tragic note as standout Caroline Found was killed Aug. 11 in a moped accident in Iowa City. Found, or “Line,” as she was known, was the starting setter for the 2010 State Class 4A Championship team and was named to the All State Honorable Mention team as well as the MVC Second Team. While her number 9 was not retired, it will not be re-assigned. Her game jersey will be draped over a seat at the West bench for every match this season.


CCA board, administration deal with first-day jitters

OXFORD — The first day of a new school year tends to make a lot of people nervous: kids, parents, principals, superintendents, and even school board members.
Two years ago, the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school board of directors found themselves facing a room full of angry parents after a change in bus routes led to chaos. This time around, almost everybody was pleased.


Handicapped accessible pier to be built in Kent Park

JOHNSON COUNTY– One long-time Johnson County family will memorialize their father and help many future park users for years to come.
The family of Leon Cooper had donated over $2,000 to aid in the construction of a handicapped-accessible fishing pier to be built on the 27-acre lake at F.W. Kent Park near Oxford.


Forum to address hunger to be held August 25

HIAWATHA– The Iowa Food Bank Association, in collaboration with the HACAP Food Reservoir and the United Way of East Central Iowa, invites the community to a public forum addressing the issue of hunger in Iowa and its relation to income, health, and education. The forum will be held on August 25 from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. at the HACAP Food Reservoir,1515 Hawkeye Dr., Hiawatha.


CCA to hold Pink Night to benefit local cancer treatment centers

TIFFIN– On Sept. 30, the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clipper football team will host a special fundraiser, Pink Out 2011 to benefit local cancer clinics.
Actor and CCA alumn Ashton Kutcher donated pink jerseys for the CCA football team for that night’s game. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase game jerseys during a silent auction held that night. Kutcher and his wife, actress Demi Moore, also autographed jerseys that will be part of the auction.


Pancake Breakfast to be held Aug. 27 at CCA High School

TIFFIN– Come and enjoy a great pancake breakfast served by your favorite Clear Creek Amana athletes and coaches from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at CCA High School, Tiffin. Cost is $5/adult and $3/kids preK-4th grade The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage and juice, coffee or water.
