Three more for soccer girls

SOLON– Solon girls soccer had another busy, but successful week.  They opened on Tuesday, May 17, at home against a very good and very physical Center Point-Urbana team.  Early in the first half, Alison McKinnie sent a perfect long pass to Danielle Herdliska.  Herdliska sent the ball flying into the goal off her head.  Later in the half it was Herdliska who placed a great pass to Tori Takes, who bounced it in with her upper body.  In the second half, Erica Singkofer hit a beautiful high kick that sailed into the goal well above the keeper’s head.

Boys place 10th at State, break school records

DES MOINES– The Solon boy’s track team scored points in six events and finished 10th as a team with 30 points at the Class 3A State Track Meet May 19-21 in Des Moines.
Nick Day placed in both jumping events taking third in the high jump with a leap of 6-4 and fifth in the long jump with a mark of 21 1-1/2. While Nick did not place as high as hoped, he will leave Solon with the school record in the high jump, having gone 6-9 earlier this season. He is also the only male athlete in Solon history to place in four events at the state meet.

Lady Spartans take third in 3A

Davenport Assumption stayed just out of Solon’s reach with 64 points to claim runner-up. In all, 41 3A schools scored at the State Meet, with several others getting no points.
