Proposed budget good news for fans of status quo

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty City Council got a sneak peek at next year’s budget numbers last week, and the good news is things are holding steady.
Most significantly for North Liberty taxpayers, if the proposed budget does meet with council approval, the city’s property tax rate is expected to remain unchanged, at $11.03 per $1,000 of assessed value before the state’s rollback formula is applied.

The scoop on safe shoveling

SOLON– So, the white stuff has made its return to Iowa. Along with the joys of snowmen, sledding, and skiing comes the dreaded task of shoveling those driveways and sidewalks.
While shoveling can become an almost daily chore in Solon, it can also provide some much needed exercise in the winter months. However, shoveling incorrectly can put you at great risk for back injuries and a whole lot of discomfort. Here are some key tips to avoiding injury if you must shovel:

Lady Spartans drop two

Spartans double-up Sabres

game of the year, according to Head Coach Brad Randall.
The Solon boys basketball team shot the ball well, rebounded well and had contributions from a lot of players on the way to routing Central DeWitt, 61-31, last Tuesday in DeWitt.
The Spartans jumped out to a 16-3 first quarter lead and never looked back, holding the Sabres to only nine points in the first half. Randall was able to empty his bench in the fourth quarter.
Nine different players scored for Solon and 10 came down with a rebound.

Seven dual wins

SOLON– The Solon varsity wrestling team went undefeated in seven dual meets this week, raising their dual meet record to 17 wins and 2 losses. Saturday, in a dual meet tournament held at Center Point-Urbana, the team downed Linn-Mar JV, Mid-Prairie, New London, and CP-U.
