Gregory Engrav <br> Zachary Engrav

Gregory John Engrav, 37, and Zachary John Engrav, 5, father and son, died from injuries received in a car accident near Solon, Monday, Jan. 30, 2012.
Funeral services were held Feb. 4 at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Solon. Following the funeral service, a time of fellowship and refreshments was held at the church for family and friends. Burial followed at the Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Gregory and Zachary’s memory. Donna Cruse

Donna Jean Cruse, 78, of Solon, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Mercy Iowa City. Services were held Feb. 4 at Brosh Chapel in Solon. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.
Donna was born Dec. 27, 1933, in Tipton, to Gilbert and Iva (Baker) Worby. She married Raymond Cruse on Jan. 24, 1957, in Tipton. She served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Food For Thought

A good many years ago (I’ve truly forgotten just how many), this was a food column. I hesitate to call it a cooking column because it was more about the history and enjoyment of food than about specific recipes or cooking techniques. We called it “The Good Cook” for a long time, and I intended that to refer to the reader, the one in every family who makes the meals day after day, year in and year out.

IOWA CITY– University of Iowa Recreational Services is hosting its annual Moonlight “Ski and S’mores” from 8 until 10 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3, at Macbride Nature Recreation Area. This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
Ski rentals are available from the Outdoor Recreation Center at 319-384-1225. If there is no snow on Feb. 3, the event will be cancelled.
