Lakeview PTO’s first annual ‘Spartan Dash’ set for April 21

SOLON– The Lakeview Elementary PTO will be hosting its first annual “Spartan Dash” on April 21, rain or shine. The “Spartan Dash” is a fun and crazy fitness event that will serve as the Lakeview PTO’s largest fundraising event of the year. Students can sign up to participate in the event on family teams. Family teams will walk, skip or run through obstacles set up along the one-mile trail in the Solon Nature and Recreation Area. All obstacles will be suitable for both children and adults. The event will start and end at the round barn in the Solon Nature and Recreation Area.

NHS induction March 26

Plan to attend this year’s National Honor Society Induction Ceremony on Monday, March 26, at 7 p.m. in the middle school auditorium. The public is invited to attend and congratulate this year’s inductees.

HS art club ‘Empty Bowls’ luncheon

Solon High School Art Club students kindly request your presence at the third annual Solon High School “Empty Bowls Luncheon to End Hunger” on Saturday, March 31, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the high school commons. Guests will be served a modest lunch of soup and bread in a ceramic bowl handmade by a local student, educator or community member for a suggested minimum donation of $10. Guests are encouraged to keep the bowl at the end of their meal with the art students’ compliments and sincere gratitude. All money collected will be donated to the Johnson County Crisis Center and Food Bank.

Call for artists for the ‘Calf Classic’

SOLON– Are you an artist searching for a palette for your artistic expression? How about painting a calf? The Solon Library Foundation’s Calf Classic has four sculpted resin calves available for artistic creation. The four Calf Classic sponsors, Bridge Community Bank, Sam’s Main Street Market, the Solon Economist and Tom Cardella will choose from the artistic submissions for that one particular expression to be painted on their sponsored calf.

Prescribed burn planned for Solon Prairie

SOLON– The Johnson County Conservation Board (JCCB) is planning to conduct a prescribed burn at the Solon Prairie at some point between March 5 and April 30, weather conditions permitting.

And the Oscar winner is–

Spencer Thompson.
Spencer took the prize in the 2012 Oscar contest sponsored by the Friends of the Solon Library by correctly predicting 18 of the 24 categories. The $40 prize package included first check-out privileges for all Best Picture nominated films that arrive at the library after the Oscars (Feb. 26). Congratulations, Spencer.
