Hawk Talk

DEFENSE

The last couple of weeks I’ve talked about the Hawkeye offense. This week I’ll look at the defensive line and linebackers.

The defensive line could be the most important position as far as how successful the Hawkeyes will be. Iowa will be young and inexperienced, but I believe they have the coach that can make them a solid unit by the end of the year.
Reece Morgan, who has been the offensive line coach since 2003, will coach the d-line this year and in my opinion, might be the best pure coach on the staff.

Thelma Maxine Shelton, 68, of North Liberty, died Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Mercy Iowa City. Services were held April 5 at Good News Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Thomas Osterkamp Jr. Burial was at Davis Cemetery, rural Walker.


Marilyn Obermier

Marilyn M. Obermier, 81, of Clarence, died March 30, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral services were held April 5 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Stanwood, by the Rev. Victor Young. Burial was at Dayton Valley Cemetery, Clarence.
Born March 8, 1931, in Lowden, the daughter of Forest and Myrtle (Straub) Ford, she married Wallace Obermier on June 4, 1950. He died Dec. 8, 2000.


Perry Lighty

Perry C. Lighty, 77, died Friday March 30, 2012, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Funeral services were held April 2 at the Buck Creek Methodist Church, with interment in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Local survivors include John (Becky) Lighty of Solon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.


Eda Ardelle Larson

Eda Ardelle Larson, 87, formerly of Chester, died April 5, 2012, at Patty Elwood Center in Cresco where she had lived since September 2008.
The funeral service for Ardelle Larson was held April 9 at the United Methodist Church, Lime Springs, with Pastor Candie Carey officiating. Interment was at Bethlehem Cemetery in Beaver Township, Fillmore County, Minn.


Food For Thought

I suppose most of us spend a certain amount of our consciousness inside our own heads. I know I do, and sometimes I seem to get stuck there and the outside world becomes as blurry and remote as a half-remembered dream. I don’t know why this happens to me. It could be physical, brought on by high blood pressure, lack of sleep, or an iron deficiency; or if it’s psychological and caused by stress, unfamiliarity, or too many things going on at once.


ICCSD parents to approach NL City Council tonight

NORTH LIBERTY– A group of concerned Iowa City school district parents scheduled time to appear on the North Liberty City Council’s meeting agenda this week.
Parents requested an audience with the council for Tuesday, April 10, to revisit the topic of a third Iowa City Community School District regular high school, which many parents in the North Liberty area would like to see built in the north Corridor. The group’s presentation is scheduled for a pre-meeting work session at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers, 1 Quail Creek Cr., North Liberty.
