Eda Ardelle Larson

Eda Ardelle Larson, 87, formerly of Chester, died April 5, 2012, at Patty Elwood Center in Cresco where she had lived since September 2008.
The funeral service for Ardelle Larson was held April 9 at the United Methodist Church, Lime Springs, with Pastor Candie Carey officiating. Interment was at Bethlehem Cemetery in Beaver Township, Fillmore County, Minn.


Food For Thought

I suppose most of us spend a certain amount of our consciousness inside our own heads. I know I do, and sometimes I seem to get stuck there and the outside world becomes as blurry and remote as a half-remembered dream. I don’t know why this happens to me. It could be physical, brought on by high blood pressure, lack of sleep, or an iron deficiency; or if it’s psychological and caused by stress, unfamiliarity, or too many things going on at once.


ICCSD parents to approach NL City Council tonight

NORTH LIBERTY– A group of concerned Iowa City school district parents scheduled time to appear on the North Liberty City Council’s meeting agenda this week.
Parents requested an audience with the council for Tuesday, April 10, to revisit the topic of a third Iowa City Community School District regular high school, which many parents in the North Liberty area would like to see built in the north Corridor. The group’s presentation is scheduled for a pre-meeting work session at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers, 1 Quail Creek Cr., North Liberty.

Historical committee seeks assistance with Civil War exhibit

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Area Historical Committee is in need of the community’s help in filling out a display commemorating the area’s Civil War soldiers.
Since the Ranshaw House is not ready for show, the Historical Committee has decided to put together a Civil War exhibit to display around North Liberty. April 2011 until April 2015 is the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, making this the perfect time to honor the area Civil War soldiers.


Still young, but looking for greatness on the green

TIFFIN— Coach Jason Goslin says his CCA girls’ golf team is still young. In his fourth year with the program, Goslin, and assistant coach Carmine Scarpa, has only one senior returning, Maddie Shrader. Sophomores Gabi Scarpa, Anna Johnson and Kelly Noska are also back along with sophomores Eden Campbell, Katelynn Haijsky and Kaitlin VanVoorst. Junior Kate Walker is also back in the Clipper lineup.
Junior Nicole Hegewald and freshmen Nicole Davis, Sarah McGrath and Haley Mougin are new to the squad this season.

NORTH LIBERTY— Last year the Optimist Club of North Liberty lined streets in town with 77 American flags to celebrate five key national holidays. For 2012, they would like to increase the visual display of patriotism with a goal of at least 150 by Memorial Day.

Williams, Alexander and 4x100 earn Saturday wins

CEDAR RAPIDS— The Jefferson J-Hawks hosted their 53rd Annual John Ask Relays Saturday, March 31 at Kingston Stadium with seven teams entered. The West High Trojans joined Bettendorf, Jefferson, Kennedy, Prairie, Washington (CR) and Linn-Mar.
Mondo Williams won the varsity 200-meter dash in 22.72 seconds, Dondre Alexander took the high jump with his 6-3 effort and the 4x100-meter relay squad (Tavian Smith, Andrew Gilbaugh, Richard Bryant, Williams) won their event in 43.10 seconds.
Varsity results:
100-meter dash— 2, Mondo Williams, 11.27. 6, Tavian Smith, 11.84.


Trojans win CR scrimmage

CEDAR RAPIDS— Coach Brad Stiles’ West High Trojans warmed up for the regular season of boys’ varsity soccer with a 2-1 win Thursday, March 29, against CR Prairie. The MVC squads met in a 40-minute scrimmage match as part of CR Washington’s Soccer Jamboree held at Kingston Stadium.
Ryan O’Deen put in West’s first goal with an assist by Alex Troester. The Prairie Hawks retaliated and tied the match 1-1 before Nathan Schuchert put in the winning goal. Troester’s brother Ben had the assist, prompting Stiles to remark afterward, “It was a good day for the Troester’s.”
