TIFFIN– Sometimes a loss can rejuvenate a team and spur them on to victory the next go-around. For the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) boys’ varsity soccer squad, a recent loss to West Delaware may have added a little more fuel to their fire Thursday, May 17, as friendly rival Solon came to town.
“We remembered how to win,” coach Tim Benson said after CCA’s 2-1 WaMaC victory, the first over the Spartans in recent years and a much better showing than last year’s blowout in Solon.

SOLON– After at least five years of Solon softball, this summer will be the last one for six Spartan seniors playing in their final season together.
In fact, some of the recently-graduated Spartans will become opponents next year at the college level.
“It’s going to be weird playing against each other,” catcher Hannah Turkal said.
Turkal will play for University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Others will attend schools around Iowa, with one at Minnesota State.

Continue to check the school’s online calendar during the summer months for many events and changes as they occur. Also the one page 2012-13 school year calendar is available on the web site under ‘Calendars.’ The first day of school will be Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012. Have an enjoyable summer.

JOHNSON COUNTY–
Two candidates, David Johnson of West Branch and Dick Schwab of rural Solon, are running in the June 5 primary election to represent Democrats for a seat in the redistricted Iowa House District 73.
The candidates each received a questionnaire of identical questions and were asked to respond via email. The questions and their responses appear in their entirety below.

SOLON– Solon Robotics will host an open house June 15, from 5 until 7 p.m., and June 16, from 8 until 10 a.m., for 2012-2013 Middle and High School. Interested students and parents come to the high school, room 118, for information about the VEX robotics game “Sack Attack”, and FTC robotics competitions.
If you are not in the Solon Community School District and are interested in robotics, you are welcome to join us at the open house to explore options in robotics.
