Jump for JZ! Fundraiser July 15

The “Jump for JZ!” event will take place Sunday, July 15, from 3 until 8 p.m. at Penn Meadows Park in North Liberty, including food, silent and live auctions, activities for kids, a blood drive and music by a live DJ. Fundraising coordinators encourage the entire community to come to the event and support Jack’s recovery. Monetary donations can be directed to the University of Iowa Community Credit Union: Jack Zschiesche Fundraiser.


Bobcats sink Clippers twice

VAN HORNE— The boys were pretty beat up Monday, June 4 as the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity baseball team suffered a pair of losses on the road at Van Horne to the Benton Community Bobcats, falling 13-4 and 9-0.
The Clippers opened game one with a pair of runs in the top of the first, but couldn’t find home plate again until the fifth. Meanwhile, the Bobcats put up four runs in the first, one in the second and three in the fourth. Five runs in the bottom of the fifth only added insult to injury.


Clippers scuttle Blue Raiders

TIFFIN— June 6, 2012: The 68th anniversary of D-Day. For the Anamosa Blue Raiders, they may well have felt like they were under siege as the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers unloaded a batting barrage. Andrew Davis’ Clippers put up 29 hits and 29 runs in a varsity double-header to win 17-7 and 12-2 on the home diamond.

MUSCATINE— With shock and sadness all around him, West High coach David Rosenthal remained as up-beat and positive as he could.
“I really think we out-played them,” the coach said in the wake of a 2-0 loss to Cedar Rapids Kennedy in the first round of the Class 3A girls state soccer tournament. “We made a couple mistakes; they took advantage of a couple mistakes of ours, and deserved to win.”


The right stuff-ing

NORTH LIBERTY– Sometimes, a hug from a soft, furry friend is just what you need to make things better.
Local Girl Scouts from troops 5555, 8720 and 8034 get that; some have young friends and family members who have endured hospital stays, and they can imagine what it would be like to be away from home and ailing.
“I bet they would want something to play with,” said seven-year-old Scout Caitlin McCabe.
So the local troops set out to make that happen. The troops decided to build stuffed animals for pediatric patients in the University of Iowa Hospital’s cancer unit.


Local employee charged with seven counts of forgery

NORTH LIBERTY– Nicole Marie Campbell of Coralville was charged with seven counts of forgery after she allegedly wrote checks on the account of an 87-year old resident of the North Liberty Living Center.


Stroke and osteoporosis screenings coming to NL community center June 26

NORTH LIBERTY– Residents living in the North Liberty area can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke or bone fracture. North Liberty Community Center will host Life Line Screening on June 26.
Four key points every person needs to know: Stroke is the third leading cause of death and a leading cause of permanent disability. Eighty percent of stroke victims had no apparent warning signs prior to their stroke. Preventive ultrasound screenings can help you avoid a stroke. Screenings are fast, noninvasive, painless, affordable and convenient.

EASTERN IOWA– Results of the June 5 primary election have been officially tabulated.
Canvasses for Johnson County were conducted early this week, showing clear winners in the contested primary races for seats in U.S. Congressional District 2 and Johnson County Auditor.
Candidate for U.S. Congressional District John Archer, an attorney from Bettendorf, beat opponent Dan Dolan, a homebuilder from Muscatine, for the Republican nomination, 58 percent to 42 percent in Johnson County. Iowa’s Second Congressional District covers 24 counties in Eastern Iowa, including Johnson County.
