SOLON– It’s hard to faze the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity softball team.
On the road for six games in the sweltering heat, the Clipper girls cranked by their opponents by a combined score of 63-14 last week. With a win Tuesday at Burlington, CCA is poised to finish at 40-1, with the lone loss coming against Ankeny 10-0 in the championship game of a Ft. Dodge tournament June 16.
That loss was avenged Saturday at an Ottumwa tournament where the Clipper girls upended No. 1 in Class 5A Ankeny, 10-5.

NORTH LIBERTY– When the North Liberty Community Food and Clothing Pantry came asking for donations from the City of North Liberty, director Tina DuBois didn’t expect to receive the big chill.
But she’ll happily accept it.
The North Liberty City Council voted unanimously last Tuesday, June 26, to donate $15,000 toward the purchase of a walk-in freezer for the pantry’s new building.

NORTH LIBERTY– Several street projects will be underway within the next few days in North Liberty.
Starting Tuesday, July 3, North Dubuque Street north of Penn Street will be down to one lane with flaggers due to milling of asphalt. Next, the same street will be closed on Thursday and Friday, July 5 and 6, in order to install a culvert. Detour signs will be in place. The following week on Monday, July 9, North Dubuque will be down to one lane again with flaggers to overlay the road.

IOWA CITY– Johnson County Republicans will host an Ice Cream Social for Steve Sherman, House District 77 candidate, on Tuesday, July 10, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the Washington Township School, 1592 Angle Rd., Southwest near Frytown.
All voters are welcome to attend.
Steve Sherman would be representing the north, west and south sides of Johnson County in the Iowa legislature, including the towns of Frytown, Lone Tree, North Liberty, Oxford, Swisher, Shueyville, Tiffin and the surrounding areas.

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Pantry (NLCP) invites local businesses to participate in Thanksgiving in July.
The last two years, local financial institutions held food drives and competed for a traveling turkey trophy, awarded in 2011 to Hills Bank & Trust for amassing the most contributions. In total, the North Liberty Community Pantry received the equivalent of more than 10,000 pounds of food in July 2011.
This year the NLCP is opening the invitation to all businesses to compete in the Thanksgiving in July event.
