After a refreshing break for the week of the 4th of July, Summer Reading Program activities will resume again on Tuesday, July 10, with Storytime at 10:30 a.m. with the theme, “Let’s Get Nocturnal.” Storytime welcomes all children ages two through five, their parents, caregivers and siblings for a story and a craft. Teens On Tuesdays at 2, for fifth grade and up, will be creating sticky rice critters just like they do in Japan, with the theme “Bento Box Food.” Come hungry, because everything created is edible and all critters will be eaten.

SOLON– The Solon American Legion is searching for boys sponsored by the legion who attended Boys State at Camp Dodge during their junior year of high school. A board in the shape of Iowa has been donated by Jack Neuzil to the Legion for the purpose of recognizing the Stinocher Post’s Boys State participants. The names and the year each attended will be added to the board, and it will be displayed at the Solon legion.

SOLON– Isaac Russell was underemployed when he moved back to Iowa after many years in New York and California.
His family helped him out with some work, and Isaac with his wife, Daisy, tried freelance sign language interpreting, something they’d done for many years on both coasts.
Then Isaac decided to take matters into his own hands.
He’d always wanted to start a business. In 2009, he said, “I’m going to give it a shot.”
He set up a window-washing business by late 2009 and started calling on potential commercial clients that winter.

IOWA CITY– In November, Johnson County voters will see a bond referendum on the ballot to fund a new criminal justice center to replace the existing sheriff’s office, jail and courthouse. The board of supervisors will be asking the taxpayers for $46.8 million while dipping into reserves for the balance of the $4.8 million (estimated) project.
As part of a campaign to make the case for the new combined facility, the board arranged a tour of the jail and courthouse for the quarterly meeting of local governments, held June 20 in Iowa City. Supervisor Rod Sullivan explained why.

The Game Time basketball league kicked off its 12th season June 20 at the North Liberty Recreation Center.
Three of the five Hawkeye recruits were in action and all of them were on the same team.
Mike Stoermer, who coaches the Coralville Hy-Vee team, picked Kali Peschel in the second round, Kayla Timmerman in the third and junior college transfer Kathryn Thomas in the fifth.
Claire Till and Nicole Smith, the other two recruits, are rehabbing knee injuries.
Kali, a 6-1 guard/forward, had 18 points and 11 rebounds in her opening game.
