West football rolls past Warriors

CEDAR RAPIDS– The West High Trojans improved to a 2-0 record Friday, Sept. 6, on the road at Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids Washington Warriors were the latest to fall victim to coach Brian Sauser’s crew.
The Warriors scored in the first quarter and led 8-7 before the juggernaut that is West High football kicked into high gear.

State experience, untested newbies for Trojan x-country team

IOWA CITY– Mike Parker’s Trojan cross country team will rely heavily on a pair of seniors, a quartet of juniors and a sophomore as they look to defend their MVC super meet championship from last season.

Clipper runners enjoy respite from the heat at Williamsburg

Keith, Douglass lead the way for CCA x-country

WILLIAMSBURG– After blistering heat and smothering humidity, the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) cross country squads opened the 2013 season with an invitational at the athletic complex in Williamsburg. The host Raiders won the girls’ varsity 4K with 36 team points while Vinton-Shellsburg won the boys’ 5K with 58.
The CCA Clipper girls finished seventh overall with 171 points while the boys were fifth with 112. Chloe Keith was the fastest CCA girl with a 16th-place finish in 18:05 and Eric Douglass posted a seventh-place finish in 17:51.

West sweeps East

IOWA CITY– Two out of three wasn’t bad.
The West High Women of Troy swept the Waterloo East High Trojans 3-0 Tuesday, Sept. 3, at home in varsity volleyball action. West took the first set 25-18, but it was a hard-fought win.
“We weren’t ready to play that first one, were we?” coach Kathy Bresnahan asked rhetorically afterward.

Mistakes plague Clippers in loss to Mid-Prairie

TIFFIN– Turnovers and penalties took a heavy toll on the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers Friday, Sept. 6, as they entertained the Golden Hawks of Mid-Prairie, Wellman.
The Hawks took the non-district contest, 27-13.
The game opened on a sour note with a fumble on the Clippers’ first possession, giving the Hawks a drive toward the goal line. CCA held them from scoring a touchdown, but Mid-Prairie still managed a field goal for a 3-0 lead.

Celebrate the century farmer-style at Colony Pumpkin Patch

NORTH LIBERTY– Colony Pumpkin Patch in North Liberty is “Celebrating the Century,” farmer-style. Commemorating North Liberty’s 100 years of incorporation, the Colony Pumpkin Patch’s new corn maze is a depiction of the city’s 100th birthday logo. Visitors can journey through the maze beginning Saturday, Sept. 28, and for an extra challenge play a North Liberty trivia game using your Smartphone, or use your GPS to work your way though the twists, turns and dead-end paths of the five-acre maze.

Loebsack to host ice cream social on Sept. 16 at Penn Meadows

NORTH LIBERTY– The Johnson County Democratic Party and U.S. Congressman Dave Loebsack are hosting a free ice cream social Monday, Sept. 16, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Penn Meadows Park in North Liberty.
Families are invited for ice cream and conversation. This will be a great opportunity to meet U.S. Congressman Dave Loebsack and other Johnson County elected officials.

Debut Dance Studio to celebrate five years of dance on Sept. 15

Public invited to open house in new location at Penn Landing

NORTH LIBERTY– On Sunday, Sept. 15, Debut Dance Studio will host an open house from 5 until 6:30 p.m. at the studio’s new location at 620 Pacha Parkway, Ste. 1, in North Liberty. Come tour the new facility and enjoy activities and dance classes for kids. There will be a performance by Forte Performing Company at 6 p.m., during which the members of the company will preview their dances for the upcoming season.
