The library has the latest best sellers in fiction for you. These are the top nine best-sellers according to the Neilsen survey of best-selling hardcovers for the week ending March 31.
No. 1: “Lover At Last” by J.R. Ward (11th installment of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series).
No. 2: “Six Years” by Harlan Coben.
No. 3: “The Storyteller” by Jodi Picoult.
No. 4: “Alex Cross, Run” by James Patterson.
No. 5: “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn.
No. 6: “The Burgess Boys” by Elizabeth Strout.

Lakeview Elementary ‘Party at the Park’ Kernels game April 28

SOLON– There will be a Lakeview Elementary “Party at the Park” at the Cedar Rapids Kernels game on Sunday, April 28. Gates open at 1 p.m. with the game starting at 2:05 p.m. Get a chance to throw out the first pitch or participate in on-field contests. There will be a “Halfway to Halloween Post-Game Helicopter Candy Drop.”

‘Meal and a Movie’ April 26

SOLON– The Solon Senior Advocates are showing the widely acclaimed musical “Les Miserables,” starring Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway, Friday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at the Solon Public Library. The catered meal will represent three of Solon’s eateries; Subway’s club sandwich, Reggie’s Weenies’ award-winning chili and El Sol’s fabulous mocha tres leches cake. May Day breakfast Saturday, May 4

SOLON– GFWC/Iowa Solon Women’s Club will sponsor a May Day Breakfast on Saturday, May 4, from 7 until 11 a.m. at the Solon United Methodist Church serving egg and meat casseroles, homemade kolaches and rolls, fruit, orange juice, coffee and milk. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 to 12 at the door. Children under 5 eat free. Proceeds benefit the Solon Public Library and the Solon Community School District libraries.

NORTH LIBERTY– Johnson County Engineer Greg Parker has made a promise.
“Once we’re done, you’ll love it.”
Parker issued the vow Monday, April 15, at a public meeting held at South Slope Communications in North Liberty regarding the replacement of the aging Mehaffey Bridge. A packed crowd sat through a brief presentation, then directed over 20 questions at Parker, assistant engineer Ed Bartels and representatives of VJ Engineering and Iowa Bridge and Culvert about the nearly $9 million project.

Heavy rain threatens Solon sewer plant, closes roads

SOLON– Residents of Solon continued to sandbag Wednesday evening as rapidly rising waters closed in on the city’s sewage plant.
But by Thursday morning, things were looking up.
Solon Public Works Director Scott Kleppe reported Mill Creek had withdrawn to its banks after being as close as 3 feet from a building at the wastewater treatment facility.

CCA Jazz wins at Charles City, qualifies for state championships

CHARLES CITY– The Clear Creek Amana Jazz Ensemble headed north to Charles City on Saturday, March 9, for the 32nd Annual Charles City Jazz Festival. The jazz ensemble, under the direction of John C. Smith, competed in the 3A division along with five other Jazz bands from throughout the state of Iowa. The festival was held in the Charles City Middle School Auditorium.

Join NL’s trip to Cubs, Cardinals game May 8

NORTH LIBERTY– Join North Liberty Recreation Department staff to see the local baseball favorite, Chicago Cubs, versus the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Stadium on Wednesday, May 8.. Register early, spots fill up fast.
Don’t worry about the hassle of getting tickets, driving, tolls or parking because the recreation staff have it covered. Seats will be in the outfield terrace.
The bus will stop for food at the Oasis in DeKalb on the way home, but will not be stopping on the way there. Food and drink are allowed on the bus in a small cooler, but no alcohol is allowed.

West boys, girls dominate at City’s Forwald/Coleman Relays

IOWA CITY– The West High track and field teams traveled across town to City High Thursday, April 18, for the Little Hawks’ Forwald/Coleman Relays and performed in dominating fashion. The Women of Troy won their meet with 132 team points, knocking the host Hawks to second with 120. The Trojans won the men’s meet with 168 points, also putting their hosts in the second-place slot with 141 for City.
