Get your burrito on with local Lions

NORTH LIBERTY– Join North Liberty Lions for their first burrito breakfast on Saturday, April 6, from 8 until 11 a.m. in the North Liberty Community Center gymnasium.
Price is $5/burrito and includes sausage, egg and cheese burrito. Coffee, juice and milk. Tickets can be purchased from Lions members, at the North Liberty Community Library or at the door.

April 5 is deadline to take advantage of city’s rain barrel, compost bin sale

NORTH LIBERTY– As part of North Liberty’s commitment to water conservation and recycling, the city announces the Hometown Rewards rain barrel and compost bin pre-order sale. North Liberty residents can purchase the Earth Machine Backyard Compost Bin for $43 (retail price around $100), compost turners for $23 and a SYSTERN Rain Barrel for $53 (retail price around $120).

Youth invited to celebrate NL in talent show April 6

NORTH LIBERTY– It’s a chance for the community’s children to strut their stuff and celebrate North Liberty’s 100th anniversary. The event, “North Liberty’s Got Talent: Showcasing our Youth,” will be a part of the year-long celebration of North Liberty’s centennial by showcasing talented local youths. The showcase is scheduled from 2 until 4 p.m. on April 6 at Grace Community Church, 2707 Dubuque St. in North Liberty.

Public invited to March 27 session on North Liberty improvements

NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty officials and project engineers will be available during an open house to help residents understand the impact of upcoming road construction. The open house is scheduled from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, at the North Liberty Community Center, 520 W. Cherry St. Residents can come and go at any time.

City offices to hold holiday hours this week

NORTH LIBERTY– On Friday, March 29, city offices and the North Liberty Community Library are closed for the weekend holiday. The North Liberty Recreation Center will be open from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, March 29.
On Saturday, March 30, the library will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and the recreation center will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. All city facilities are closed Sunday, March 31. Normal hours resume on Monday, April 1.

CCA takes on super search

Board on a tight schedule to replace Dr. Denise Schares

AMANA– They knew it wouldn’t be easy to replace superintendent Dr. Denise Schares, but the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school board truly had their work cut out for them as they met with the search firm recently. The meeting with Dr. Gaylord Tryon, president and founder of G. Tryon and Associates, came toward the end of the board’s regular monthly meeting Wednesday, March 13.

Soon, a new chapter in library’s history

Solon Lady Spartans tackle indoor meets

A cold, snowy March has made indoor track meets a popular venue. Though events and entries are limited with shorter tracks and limited space, they provide a good look for coaches and athletes ahead of the end-of-March through May outdoor season.
Through three indoor meets, Solon’s girls are providing some of the answers. Still, with spring break taking away a large share of the team… and this week’s first outdoor meet cancelled, there are plenty of questions.

Meal and a Movie to feature “Lincoln” March 29

SOLON– “Lincoln,” the movie that won two Academy Awards, is the featured film for the Meal and a Movie, Friday, March 29, at 11 a.m. at the Solon Public Library. Daniel Day-Lewis, who received Best Actor Award, and Sally Field star. Lincoln’s favorite meal, chicken and apple pie, catered by Lori, will comprise the meal. Shueyville UMC men’s pancake supper April 12

SHUEYVILLE– The Shueyville United Methodist men’s pancake supper will be held Friday, April 12, from 5 until 7 p.m.
The public is invited to enjoy good food and fellowship with friends.
All-you-can eat supper includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, hash browns
and beverage. This supper is used to support mission activities both at home and around the world. Adults $6, Ages three through12 $3, under three free.
