CCA vexes Vikettes volleyball

CCA 3-1 over Vinton Shellsburg

VINTON– Clear Creek Amana (CCA)’s Clipper varsity volleyball team improved its record to 17-6 overall Tuesday, Oct. 7, with a 3-1 win on the road against Vinton-Shellsburg.

Clipper boys 3rd at IMS Invitational

WELLMAN– Iowa Mennonite School (IMS) held its invitational cross-country meet Monday, Oct. 6, with the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers participating. The varsity boys placed third in team points with 67 and a total time of 1:30:25.92. Vinton-Shellsburg won the event with 39 points and 1:28:32.27.
Eric Douglass led the varsity boys with a third-place finish in 17:31.20, Dylan Wolfe led the junior varsity (JV) boys with a fourth-place finish in 19:30.52 and Kaylie Barker led the junior high girls with her third-place finish in 13:35.08.

Oct. 25 dodge ball tournament, silent auction to benefit local one-year-old fighting cancer

NORTH LIBERTY – On Oct. 25, Team Avery will host a fundraiser to benefit one-year-old Avery Flick of North Liberty, who is battling a rare form of musculoskeletal cancer. The event, to be held at North Central Junior High School in North Liberty, will include a dodge ball tournament, silent auction and bake sale.
All proceeds will go directly to the Flick family– Justin, Heidi, Payton and Avery– to help with medical and living expenses during Avery’s year-long treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

Clippers make history

CCA shuts down Assumption 27-0, stays perfect in District 5

TIFFIN– The victory bell rang again Friday, Oct. 10, after the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers shelled the Knights of Davenport Assumption 27-0. The win was literally one for the books as the Clippers surpassed last season’s win total with a 6-1 record overall (4-5 last season). CCA also remained undefeated in district play with a 5-0 record for the top slot. With two games left in the regular season, the Creek Boys secured the District 5 Championship, a first for the team, and are headed for the playoffs for the first time since 2010.

Cedar Falls wins 3-2 over West

IOWA CITY– A week after falling 3-2 to the Linn-Mar Lions, the West High Women of Troy suffered another heartbreaking loss, this time to the Cedar Falls Tigers at home on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The Tigers knocked off West 3-2 in a battle for second place in the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC)’s Valley Division.

North Liberty Community Pantry awarded challenge grant for community garden project

NORTH LIBERTY– A new project in North Liberty will bring growth to the community in a whole new way.
In September, the North Liberty Community Pantry was awarded a $38,850 challenge grant from the Wellmark Foundation in order to develop a community garden. Now, pantry supporters and director Tina DuBois are in the process of raising the required matching funds, which must be pledged by Dec. 15.

NL American Legion Auxiliary to host free annual Veterans Day dinner Nov. 11

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty American Legion Auxiliary will host a Veterans Day dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 11, beginning at 6 p.m. at South Slope’s community room, 980 N. Front St., North Liberty.
The evening will include a home-cooked meal, videos, music, military ceremonies and a guest speaker, as well as door prizes. Dinner is free to veterans and one guest.
All area veterans are invited to this free annual event, sponsored by the North Liberty American Legion Auxiliary, with the venue courtesy of South Slope Cooperative Communications.

Stone Soup Supper, Silent Auction to benefit community pantry

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Pantry will host its sixth annual Stone Soup Supper and Silent Auction on Sunday, Oct. 26, from 4:30-7 p.m., at the South Slope Community Room, 980 N. Front St., North Liberty. Event sponsors are Hills Bank & Trust Company and South Slope Cooperative Communications.

TIFFIN– Trick-or-Treat night in Tiffin will be held Friday, Oct. 31, from 5 until 8 p.m. Please be cautious of little ghosts and goblins as you drive through town.
