Margaret Herman

Margaret A. (VanKerckvoorde) Herman, 90, lifelong resident of Belle Plaine, died Monday, May 26, 2014, at Highland Ridge Senior Living in Williamsburg. Funeral services were May 30 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Belle Plaine, with burial following at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Eldon Hanson

Eldon LeRoy Hanson, 68, of West Branch, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Iowa City. Memorial Services were held May 30 at St. Bernadette’s Church, West Branch. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Eldon is survived by his wife Marilyn Hanson of West Branch; three daughters, Jenny (Ben) Hemingway of Iowa City; Dr. Kristin Hanson of North Liberty; Kelly Proctor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Elaine Ketchum of Denver, Colorado; and Esther (Glen) Frisbie of Springville.

Richard Gent

Richard D. “Dick” Gent, 74, of Tiffin, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Mass of Christian Burial was May 29 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cosgrove. The Rev. Edmond Dunn officiated. Burial followed in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, The Iowa SIDS Foundation or St. Peter’s Cemetery (for cemetery care).

Jerry Evers

Jerry L. Evers, 66, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services were held May 30 at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. Graveside services were held May 31, Stanton Cemetery in Stanton, Nebraska.

Again, it was time to get my driver’s license renewed. I couldn’t wait to see what novel requirements they had dreamed up since the last time I partook of this adventure. Even though (because of my age, I suppose) I am now required to renew my license every two years, there are always new innovations to the process.

NORTH LIBERTY– Sandi Spurrell loves babies. She is an artist quite skilled in drawing and graphic design. She adores children and families, enjoys meeting new people and making fast friends, and is killer with a camera.
Wrapped all up in one package, these qualities are what make Spurrell an excellent on-location photographer.
Spurrell’s journey through various stages of life and different facets of her career led her to start her own business, Sandi Spurrell Photography, run from her home in North Liberty. She is now accepting new clients.
