Front Street, Mehaffey Bridge roadwork underway

JOHNSON COUNTY– Mehaffey Bridge Road is getting a facelift, and road officials want the public to be prepared.
North Liberty and Johnson County staff members and project engineers hosted an open house at South Slope in North Liberty on Tuesday, May 13, to answer questions about the upcoming roadwork.

NL to consider water, sewer rate increases

NORTH LIBERTY– As North Liberty’s population continues to rise, increasing the number of customers for which the city provides sewer and water services, it’s not enough to keep up with demand.
At least, not when the demand is for new or expanded facilities for both utilities.

SOLON– The last 10 days have really put a strain on the Solon girls soccer team. Four games in one week with the Spartans hosting three matches against Davenport Assumption, Central DeWitt and Dyersville Beckman, as well as one on the road against Maquoketa .

Spartans repel Raiders’ attack

Postseason begins next Tuesday

SOLON– The postseason begins Tuesday for the Solon boys varsity soccer team.
The Spartans travel to Davenport Assumption for a Class 2A substate 4 quarterfinal at 5 p.m., with the winner to advance to face Marion Thursday, May 29. The regional final is set for Saturday, May 31, at Central DeWitt.
Solon ended its regular season Tuesday night with a road game against Vinton-Shellsburg. Results were not available at press time.

Boys win six events to claim district title

MARION– The Solon boy’s track team, riding the strength of six first-place finishes, claimed the team title at last week’s district track meet held at Marion.

Lady Spartans qualify relays and individuals for state

MARION– Cold rain and a monster throw stand out after a runner-up finish by Solon’s girls in the May 15 regional track meet in Marion. Solon qualified all seven relays and 10 girls in eight of the 12 individual events for the May 22-24 state track meet in Des Moines.

SOLON– Solon Beef Days Committee is proud to announce recipients of this year’s Beef Days donations, which are requested up through February and earmarked each year in April to be given back to the community and surrounding area. Auditorium plans shaping up for September vote

Board continues tweaking

SOLON– In two weeks, everyone should have a much clearer picture of the direction the school board is going with its plans for a new middle school and auditorium.
At least, that’s what Superintendent Sam Miller thinks.
Updated concept drawings and price estimates were presented to the members of the Solon Community School District’s (SCSD) Board of Education last week as they continued preparing a bond issue for consideration by district voters later this year.
