CR Kennedy bowls over West

IOWA CITY– It took a five-frame Baker roll-off to do it, but the Cedar Rapids Kennedy Cougars got the best of the West High Trojans Friday, Jan. 22, at Colonial Lanes in Iowa City. Tied at 2,860 each, the Trojans and Cougars went into the extra frames with Kennedy prevailing 115 to 88. Heath Schintler led West High with 427.
The varsity Women of Troy fell 2,402 to 2,175, with Brooke Kreiss the top West bowler with 341.

Iowa City West 89, Linn-Mar 81, in Lions’ pool

MARION– The West High Trojans slipped past the Linn-Mar Lions in varsity swimming action Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the Lions’ pool. West took the meet, 89-81.
Winners for West included the 200-yard medley relay (Noah Bruns, Matt Anderson, Oliver Martin and Will Scott) in 1:40.42, the 200-yard freestyle relay (Aidan Keen, Bruns, Scott, Mark McGlaughlin) in 1:27.97 and the 400-yard freestyle relay (Brennon Keen, Martin, Anderson, McGlaughlin) in 3:17.65.

CEDAR RAPIDS — A pair of dual meet wins for Iowa City West gave coach Mark Reiland his 399th and 400th career victories Thursday, Jan. 22, as the Trojans traveled to Cedar Rapids Kennedy to face the Cougars and the Golden Eagles of Dubuque Wahlert Catholic. West High took care of Wahlert 37-27 and Kennedy 48-19.

DiLeo leads West to 74-27 win

IOWA CITY — David DiLeo had a 25-point night, including six three-point baskets on Tuesday, Jan. 20, as he led the West High Trojans to a 74-27 non-conference win over the Bettendorf Bulldogs at home. The win elevated West to a 12-0 record and dropped Bettendorf to 3-9 on the season.

WYOMING– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) wrestlers placed fifth in team points Saturday, Jan. 24, at the 47th annual John Byers Invitational tournament at Midland High School. Knoxville won the tournament, followed by Iowa City Regina, Tipton, Maquoketa and the Clippers. North Linn, the host Eagles, Durant, Edgewood-Colesburg, Lone Tree, Monticello and Bellevue rounded out the field.

TIFFIN– P. J. Sweeney and his Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers edged back above .500 as they improved to an 8-7 overall (6-3 in the WaMaC) record after sinking the Vikettes of Vinton-Shellsburg, 75-53, in varsity WaMaC action Friday, Jan. 23, in Tiffin. Hanna Stokes led all scorers with 18 points, Emily Wieland had 16 and Lexi Kinnaird put in 13.

Blood drive at Swisher Legion to be Feb. 3

SWISHER– The Swisher American Legion is sponsoring a blood drive on Tuesday, Feb. 3, in the Legion Hall from 3:30-7:30 p.m.
Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.

Bald Eagle Watch & Expo - Feb. 7

NORTH LIBERTY– The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Coralville Lake will be co-hosting a Bald Eagle Watch and Expo on Saturday, Feb. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at North Central Junior High, 180 E. Forevergreen Road, North Liberty. The other co-hosts are the Iowa City Bird Club and the Iowa Wildlife Federation. This event is free to the public and will be held at two different locations simultaneously.
