Women of Troy earn 2015 MVC All-Division Swimming honors

IOWA CITY— The Mississippi Valley athletic Conference (MVC) released its picks for 2015 All-Division Girls Swimming honors on Monday, Nov. 2. Iowa City West High’s Erica Hsu was named the Valley Division Swimmer of the Year while Dubuque Hempstead’s Megan Schill was named for the Mississippi Division. Cedar Falls’ Dick Marcussen and Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s John Ross were, both, named Valley Division Coaches of the Year with Cedar Rapids Washington’s Megan Lewis picking up the Mississippi Division Coach of the Year honors.

Five Clippers named to WaMaC All-Conference volleyball teams

TIFFIN– Five Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity volleyball players were named to the 2015 WaMaC Conference West Division volleyball teams. The conference released East Division and West Division selections on Monday, Oct. 26.
In the West Division, home to CCA, Marion’s Roxanne Paulsen was named the Coach of the Year.

IOWA CITY– The 2015 Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) All-Division cross country selections were released on Sunday, Oct. 25, with several Iowa City West High athletes named to spots on the Valley Division First Team, Second Team, Honorable Mention and Academic rosters.
West High girls coach Mike Parker was named the Division Coach of the Year while City High’s Tom Mittman was named for the Mississippi Division.

Women of Troy face relentless Bulldogs

CEDAR RAPIDS– Their nickname is the Bulldogs, and the Iowa City West High Women of Troy found out how tenacious, tough and relentless Bulldogs can be as Bettendorf swept them 3-0 in a Class 5A State Volleyball Tournament quarterfinal match Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
“I told the girls they’re a relentless team,” West coach Randy Dolson said after the match. “No matter what we hit at them, or served at them… they were in-system most of the afternoon. They hit extremely hard and put the pressure on us… and kept us out of system more.”

NORTH LIBERTY– What better place to host a parade than North Liberty’s only official promenade?
Stonebridge Promenade, home of Blink Vision and several other commercial enterprises, was the setting for the fourth annual Halloween parade Oct. 30. Children from Montessori Children’s Garden in North Liberty were invited to don their costumes and trick-or-treat at each businesses’ storefront, and walk through the not-too-scary haunted hallway decorated by Intelec’s Scott Shephard.

CCA construction projects moving along

OXFORD— Finally, the end may be in sight for the delay-plagued addition to the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) middle school in Tiffin. The $15 million addition should have been completed in August and available for use this fall, ahead of a renovation project in the older sections of the building.

NLFD firefighter Dave Hubler inducted into NL Hall of Fame

NORTH LIBERTY– Dave Hubler, who served 24 years as a volunteer with the North Liberty Fire Department (NLFD), including time as its chief, was inducted into the North Liberty Community Hall of Fame Nov. 5.

Free Thanksgiving dinner to be held at South Slope Nov. 26
NORTH LIBERTY– For the fourth year in a row, a free Thanksgiving dinner will be available to residents of North Liberty thanks to a local community member and several businesses.
On Nov. 26, Thanksgiving Day, from 12-4 p.m., a full Thanksgiving meal will be available free of charge for residents of North Liberty at the South Slope Community Center in North Liberty.

Liberty High School public information session Nov. 23

NORTH LIBERTY– The Iowa City Community School District will hold a Liberty High School information sharing session on Monday, Nov. 23, at West High School in the Little Theater from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The meeting will provide background information regarding Liberty High School and will offer an opportunity for parents, students and community members to ask questions. Interpreters will be available and childcare will be available for children ages 2 to 12.

NL resident hopes to fill supervisor vacancy

Neuzil verbally resigns

JOHNSON COUNTY– Lisa Green-Douglass of North Liberty has announced that she will be running for the position on the Johnson County Board of Supervisors to be vacated by current board member Terrence Neuzil.
Neuzil has resigned to take a job in Kalamazoo County, Michigan.
Neuzil was elected to the board in 2000, and has been reelected to the seat every four years since. His fourth term was to end Dec. 31, 2016.
