IOWA CITY– Six West High swimming and diving team members will compete in the 2015 state meet Saturday, Nov. 7, in Marshalltown.

FORT DODGE– Clear Creek Amana (CCA) sent five runners to the 2015 Iowa High School Cross Country Championships held Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.

Women of Troy fourth at state cross country meet

Nock finishes seventh for West

FORT DODGE– The West High Women of Troy cross country squad placed fourth in overall team points Saturday, Oct. 31, at the state meet in Fort Dodge. Urbandale won the Class 4A Championship, followed by Pleasant Valley, Bettendorf, City High and West.
Bailey Nock brought in a top-10 finish with her seventh place showing in 18:41.5. Pleasant Valley’s McKenzie Yanek won the race in 17:55.0.

CCA volleyball season ends with loss in Marion

Creek Girls dump the Demons, fall to the Indians

MARION– The season ended for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity volleyball team as the Marion Indians sank the Clippers, 3-1, in a Class 4A regional semifinal match Thursday, Oct. 29, in Marion.
The Clippers opened the postseason with a 3-0 win over the Washington Demons at home, in Tiffin, on Monday, Oct. 26, in a quarterfinal round match up. Alyssa Weldon led the Clippers with a dozen kills as the Creek Girls met little resistance with 25-13, 25-8 and 25-12 set wins.

CCA falls, 13-7, in Class 3A playoffs

MAQUOKETA– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity football season came to an end Wednesday, Oct. 28, as the Maquoketa Cardinals knocked them out of the Class 3A playoffs with a 13-7 loss on a cold and windy night in Maquoketa.

Third win over City moves West one match away from state

IOWA CITY– Once again, the West High Women of Troy proved conventional wisdom doesn’t count for much, as they showed it is possible to beat a quality team three times in one season. The myth busting occurred Thursday, Oct. 29, as West High faced rival City High in a Class 5A regional semifinal match at West, and won, 3-1. The teams first met on Sept. 8, at West, for the annual “Battle for the Spike,” which the Women of Troy took, 3-2. The rivals faced each other again, later that month, in the Dubuque Invitational with West winning, 2-0.

For four years, Roger Stutsman and Kelley Donham have been trying to convince farmers they are not from the government, and they truly are there to help.

Equipment damage slows North Liberty leaf collection

NORTH LIBERTY– Leaf collection in North Liberty will be slowed due to the destruction of one of the city’s vacuum trucks. The damage was caused when a piece of concrete, obscured by leaves at the curb for collection, was sucked into the truck’s impeller. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Repair will require the truck to be out of service through the end of leaf collection, limiting collection to a single crew working with older, less efficient equipment.

NL boy to be Kid Captain when Hawks take on Indiana Nov. 7

IOWA CITY– Lincoln Ortman, 5, son of Chris and Missy Ortman of North Liberty, will serve as Kid Captain when the Hawkeyes take on Indiana on Nov. 7.
Lincoln was born with a hemangioma– a non-cancerous growth caused by an abnormal collection of blood vessels– that started on his leg. By the time he was 5 months old, it had become segmented and spread up his leg and into his diaper area. When his parents grew concerned about the birthmark bleeding, they took him to their dermatologist.

Proposed interchange to be discussed Nov. 18 in NL

NORTH LIBERTY– The Iowa Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting Wednesday, Nov. 18, to discuss the proposed interchange at West Forevergreen Road and Interstate 380 near North Liberty, in Johnson County. This includes proposed improvements along West Forevergreen Road from Jasper Avenue Northwest, east to Highway 965.
