IC West sends athletes to State Co-Ed Track & Field Meet

MARION– The West High Trojans and Women of Troy track and field athletes punched their tickets to the State Co-Ed Track & Field Meet by placing first or second at a regional meet Thursday, May 14, at Linn-Mar High School in Marion.
The state meet is set to run from Thursday, May 21, through Saturday, May 24, at Drake University in Des Moines.
The following lists the event, athlete(s) and qualifying time as per the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

Clippers head for state track

MOUNT PLEASANT– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers qualified six individual athletes and three relay events for the 2015 State Co-Ed Track and Field Meet based on their performances at a Class 3A District Meet Thursday, May 14, in Mount Pleasant.

TIFFIN– The Trojans of South Tama started Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) week off on a sour note Monday, May 11, with a 4-2 varsity soccer win over the Clippers in Tiffin.
South Tama scored three times in the first half, creating a tough situation for the Clippers. CCA finally went up on the scoreboard with 27:16 left in the second half after the Trojans’ keeper fumbled the ball inside the net for an own goal.

TIFFIN– It was a very good week for Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity girls on the soccer field. The Clippers went 3-0, earned their first ever divisional conference title and posted some individual scoring milestones.

North Central eighth graders attend Financial Literacy Fair

CORALVILLE — Shaneka Johnson’s eyes popped out as her jaw dropped as she learned first hand just how expensive it is to buy a house or rent an apartment. Johnson was one of the North Central Jr. High eighth graders taking part in a Financial Literacy program sponsored by the Workplace Learning Connection (WLC) in partnership with the University of Iowa Community Credit Union Monday April 20 at the Coralville Library.

IOWA CITY– Patient care has always been a priority for nurse practitioner Amy Leitch.
She enjoys getting to know each and every one of her patients and loves making hospital visits– an experience that’s normally dreaded– into something a little brighter.
“When they’re happy to see you again, that’s a great feeling,” Leitch said. “Having them say ‘you made my experience better,’ it makes a difference.”
But for a brief moment in her 13-year-long nursing career, Leitch stepped away from that side of the profession to pursue a job in procurement services.

Rotary Club of Coralville North Corridor presents books, checks

CORALVILLE– The Rotary Club of Coralville North Corridor (CNC) presented books and checks to area libraries at its regular club meeting on March 11. Libraries receiving the annual donations this year included: Coralville, North Liberty, Clear Creek Amana High School and Amana Elementary.
CNC Rotary supports literacy as a major project and also provides over 700 dictionaries to area fourth grade students each fall. CNC Rotary also supports the SAT/Rotary Interact Club at Clear Creek Amana High School. The club meets at Vesta Restaurant in Coralville on Wednesdays at noon.

Swisher supports county-wide Community ID program

SWISHER– At its regular meeting on Monday, May 11, the Swisher City Council announced its support for a county-wide community ID program. A resolution was presented to the council that recognized that not all residents may be able to obtain a state-issued identification card, which in turn could prevent them from obtaining access to certain basic services in Johnson County. The Council approved the resolution by a vote of 4-0. Council member Mary Gudenkauf was absent.

County seeks feedback to identify health priorities

IOWA CITY– Over the course of 2015, Johnson County Public Health (JCPH) is partnering with over 30 local agencies to complete the Community Health Needs Assessment and Health Improvement Plan (CHNA-HIP) for Johnson County. This 12-month process, undertaken every five years, collects quantitative and qualitative data from local and state sources to determine areas of need for residents.

Celebrate Seiberling May 28

IOWA CITY– Bur Oak Land Trust, Project GREEN and the City of Iowa City will celebrate the life of Nancy Seiberling on Thursday, May 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Project GREEN gardens at the historic Ashton House, 820 Park Rd., Iowa City. Dedication of the Nancy Seiberling Peony Garden will take place at 5:30 p.m.
