ICCSD board approves boundary scenario 5F

IOWA CITY- A process that spanned more than four months finally came to an end as the Iowa City School Board reached a decision about secondary school attendance boundaries to be implemented when Liberty High School is complete.
Of all the scenarios presented over the last few months, scenario 5F was considered the most balanced in demographics and student population, a goal the district had placed at the top of its priority list.

Census means more revenues for North Liberty

NORTH LIBERTY– With a town growing as quickly as North Liberty, its actual population outpaces the official count the federal government is required to conduct once every decade. In 2010, North Liberty’s official population was 13,374. Just five years later, city officials estimate the population is over 17,000.
The population is used to determine the apportionment of state road use tax that cities use to build and maintain roads, making a big difference to the growing community as it works to improve key infrastructure.

MT. PLEASANT– The Solon boy’s track team made the most of the opportunities given to them at last week’s district meet held in Mount Pleasant.
While the team finished runner-up to host Mount Pleasant, the Spartans qualified an impressive 13 events for this week’s state meet to be held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Under the format used to determine state qualifiers, the top two finishers in each event move on. The final eight spots in each event are determined by ranking performances from across the state at the various district meets.
