TIFFIN– As one of Iowa’s fastest-growing communities, it’s not only residents who want to call Tiffin home.
The city has increasingly been approached by business developers hoping to locate in the community, as well as existing business owners planning to expand their operations. Some of them also hope to take advantage of city-sponsored tax incentives to do so.

Feeding a community

NORTH LIBERTY– Turns out, there is such a thing as a free lunch.
And North Liberty served more than 3,700 of them over the summer.

Solon opens gridiron season at Iowa City Regina Friday

SOLON– It’s just one game.
But it is against Iowa City Regina.
The Solon varsity football team will open its season on the road Friday, Aug. 28, in Iowa City against the Regals, and while Head Football Coach Kevin Miller knows you can’t put too much into one game, a lot of people will be watching the annual non-conference rivalry.
“This is a nine-game schedule. We can’t get too far ahead of ourselves and focus simply on one game,” Miller said after concluding practice Tuesday.

Roll the rock

39,000-pound boulder finds new home at Legion Park

SOLON– As a two-man crew from Holiday Wrecker & Crane prepared to move the 39,000-pound Solon Freedom Rock to its new home, a bald eagle flew overhead north of the Legion Veterans Memorial.
The small crowd of Solon Area Community Foundation and Solon American Legion members in attendance took that as a good sign.
The boulder, donated by the Leo Shima and Kevin Shima families, was relocated from a ditch near 140th Street off Polk Avenue to the Legion ballpark Thursday morning, Aug. 21.
The rock was tipped up its end and placed on a gravel base adjacent to the veterans memorial.
