Hawkeye schedule part 2

Hawk Talk

This is the second part of a two-part story about Iowa’s football schedule.
Last week I thought Iowa would be favored in four games (Illinois State, Iowa State, North Texas and Illinois).
I think Pittsburgh could be a toss-up and the Hawks will be underdogs against the Badgers, with the game at Wisconsin.
This week I’ll talk about the three home games against Maryland, Minnesota and Purdue, plus road trips to Maryland, Indiana and Nebraska.

Falling apart

Walkin'

As I approach 63, I find more and more things simply can’t be done any more.
Like driving a golf ball. In my prime, during the rare event when I actually hit it where aimed, my ball might actually be in a position to reach the green in regulation. And if my aim was off, at least the shot would go two, sometimes, three fairways over.

How many trees do you need?

Food For Thought

Because I live in the woods with more than my share of trees, I forget that one of our environmental concerns is we don’t have enough trees to absorb the amount of carbon dioxide we put into the atmosphere. Whether happy coincidence or divine plan, it doesn’t matter, the fact that plants use carbon dioxide and manufacture oxygen holds the possible solution to the unbalance that is causing our environment to become less suitable for the sustenance of animal life—and that includes us humans.

West defeats Des Moines East, 11-3, in the first round, moves on to state semifinal

DES MOINES- The Trojan baseball team made its first mark at Principal Park this year with an 11-3 win over the Des Moines East Scarlets, in the first round of the state tournament July 29. But the seemingly easy victory wasn’t all smooth sailing.
The Scarlets started the game with an early lead, scoring two points at the top of the first inning and another at the top of the third, giving them a 3-0 lead over West. This lead didn’t last long; by the end of the fourth inning the Trojans had stolen the momentum.

So close.... but no title
