AMES– Clear Creek Amana (CCA) and Iowa City West High track and field athletes were in action Monday, March 14, at the Iowa State Girls’ High School Classic indoor meet, held at the Lied Recreation Center on the Iowa State University campus in Ames.

Creek Girls move to 2A for soccer with seven other teams

TIFFIN– For two years, the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity girls soccer team has been in the top five for Class 1A in the state of Iowa. This season the squad moves up to Class 2A along with seven other teams, including defending 1A champion Bishop Heelan (Sioux City) and state-qualifier LaPorte City-Union. Coach Matt Harding, in his fourth year with the program, noted 2A champion Ankeny and runner-up Pleasant Valley are moving out of the class and going up to 3A with six additional teams.

TIFFIN– The 2016 high school soccer season starts on Tuesday, April 5, for Tim Benson and his Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers. With only five seniors on the varsity squad, he describes the team as, “Young but hungry.” A large junior class is coming off two outstanding years at the junior varsity level, Benson said, an achievement made without five of their classmates who played mostly varsity soccer: Wyatt Sedlacek, Trey Godbolt, Erick Martinez, Ian McDonald and Tyreke Williams.

CEDAR RAPIDS– The West High Trojans were the runner-up team Saturday, March 26, at the 57th John Ask Relays hosted by Cedar Rapids Jefferson at Kingston Stadium. Cedar Rapids Kennedy won the meet with 125 points, followed by West High with 93. Cedar Rapids Prairie, Bettendorf, Linn-Mar, Cedar Rapids Washington and the host J-Hawks rounded out the field.

Coralville Lake Friends Group organizational meeting April 7

IOWA CITY– Is Coralville Lake your outdoor playground? Are you someone who enjoys biking, boating, fishing, hiking, bird watching, picnicking, disc golfing, swimming or other recreational activities at Coralville Lake? If so, we want you to have a voice and become part of a “Friends Group.”
A “Friends Group” engages the public in support of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ mission with protecting and enhancing the natural resources while expanding the ways in which they can be enjoyed.

“Make a Difference Day” at NL churches April 9

NORTH LIBERTY– Several North Liberty churches will host “Make A Difference Day,” a service project, on Saturday, April 9, from 8 a.m. to noon. Work teams from several local churches will be fan out over North Liberty performing community service. Service projects include yard work, small construction jobs, window washing, painting and many other projects at little or no cost, to improve the lives of the North Liberty community.
“Great group. They came in and discussed my needs and went to work,” commented one person.
“My team was the greatest,” was another comment.

Volunteers needed: Muddy Creek Cleanup April 9

NORTH LIBERTY– In observance of Keep America Beautiful Day, Boy Scout Troop 216 and Cub Scout Packs 216 and 275, the North Liberty Tree and Storm Water Advisory Board and the North Liberty Parks Department will lead the annual clean-up day to remove debris along Muddy Creek and the North Liberty Recreation trail April 9.
Public involvement, participation and education of storm water pollution prevention and management is the goal of this event.

Clipper Band to host Drive 4Ur School April 9

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clipper Band will partner with Carter Ford in Oxford for a Drive 4Ur School fundraiser April 9 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the CCA High School parking lot in Tiffin.
Come test drive a new Ford, fill out a form and Ford will pay $20 per form (one per household, must be 18 years of age) up to 300 forms or $6,000. The money raised will go toward the CCA High School Band as it prepares to go to Washington, D.C., to march in the National Memorial Day Parade.  

North Liberty road closure, lane reduction to begin April 4

NORTH LIBERTY– Weather permitting, beginning Monday, April 4, North Liberty Road south of Dubuque Street will be closed so crews can begin work on intersection improvements. East and westbound lanes of traffic will be maintained on Dubuque Street, but traffic for southbound North Liberty Road will be detoured to Rustic Ridge Road.

North Liberty salon has new owner, new look, and some new stylists

NORTH LIBERTY– Aubrey Holsinger has a vision of beauty.
She also has short-term and long-term goals, an optimistic attitude and a lot of energy– all traits she has put to use in re-imagining Flip Salon and Spa in North Liberty.
Located in Beaver Kreek since 2002, Flip Salon has been treating customers to hair makeovers, massages and manicures for quite some time. Holsinger bought the business almost one year ago, just seven weeks before she was due to give birth to her first child.
