Women of Troy dump V-ball Hawks

IC West wins 3-1 over Cedar Rapids Prairie

CEDAR RAPIDS– The West High Women of Troy opened the 2016 season with a 3-1 win over Cedar Rapids Prairie High School Tuesday, Aug. 23, in the Hawks’ nest.
West took the first set, 25-23, dropped the second set, 19-25, but rallied back to win the third and fourth sets, 25-23 and 25-18, respectively.
Colby Greene led West with 11 kills, backed up by 10 from Emma Norris. Tina Fay and Aubrey Sowers led in assists with 19 and 11 respectively, while Norris made 20 digs, Gabi Delsing came up with 18 and Spice Ford made 13. Greene also had four ace serves in the contest.

CEDAR RAPIDS– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) girls cross country squad opened the 2016 season by competing in the 32nd (Cedar Rapids) Prairie Invitational Meet Saturday, Aug. 27, at Prairie High School. The Creek Girls were 19th overall in team points and 10th in the Orange Division.
Kaylie Barker, a freshman, led CCA with a 32nd-place finish overall and eighth-place showing in the Orange Division in 21:35.

CEDAR RAPIDS– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) boys cross country team opened the 2016 season with a trip to Cedar Rapids Prairie and the 32nd Prairie Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 27. The Clippers were 16th overall out of a 20-team field and finished sixth in the 10-team Orange Division.

CEDAR RAPIDS– Iowa City West High’s Trojan cross-country team made its 2016 debut at the 32nd (Cedar Rapids) Prairie Invitational Meet Saturday, Aug. 27, at Prairie High School. The West High varsity boys were third overall and third in the Black Division behind meet champion Prairie and runner-up Waukee.
Kolby Greiner, a freshmen, led the Trojans with a third place finish overall and fourth place showing in the division in 16:50.

CEDAR RAPIDS– Iowa City West High’s Women of Troy opened the 2016 cross country season with an appearance in the 32nd (Cedar Rapids) Prairie Invitational Meet Saturday, Aug. 27, at Prairie High School. West High won the women’s varsity 5K run with 50 team points beating out Cedar Falls (65), Waukee (120), Linn-Mar (135) and Monticello (158) in the top five.
Bailey Nock led the Women of Troy with a second-place showing in 20:07.

Experience propels Women of Troy cross country team

IOWA CITY– The West High Women of Troy cross country team won the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) title last year, was the second-place squad in district competition and took fifth place in team points at the state meet. Coach Mike Parker thinks they can contend for the top spot in all three this year.
With 19 years at West, Parker has the experience to make that kind of a prediction, and his varsity lineup has the experience to back it up.

Women of Troy win swim season opener

IC West swims past CR Jefferson, Williamsburg

IOWA CITY– The West High Women of Troy opened the 2016 swimming and diving season hosting Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Williamsburg on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Coralville Recreation Center. West defeated Williamsburg, 153 to 26, and Jefferson, 94-92. The J-Hawks also sank the Raiders, 147 to 28.

West High Trojans trounce SE Polk Rams, 42-17

IOWA CITY– The West High Trojans opened the 2016 varsity football season in grand fashion Friday, Aug. 26, by trouncing the Southeast (SE) Polk Rams , 42-17, in Iowa City.

Applications for social service funding

NORTH LIBERTY– Each year, the City of North Liberty funds a number of organizations which offer social services to North Liberty residents, including the Family Resource Centers at its elementary schools, the Johnson County Housing Trust Fund and the North Liberty Community Pantry. As part of its budget for the current fiscal year, the North Liberty City Council set aside $12,000 in discretionary funding for social service programs and projects serving North Liberty residents.

City seeks communications specialist

NORTH LIBERTY– The city’s communications department is looking for a new member (technically a full-time “communications specialist”).
This position is responsible for the city’s video production, including live public meeting coverage, social media, public events and service announcements and scheduling as well as other communications functions. Good candidates are creative self-starters with a passion for the community and good troubleshooting abilities.
