Women of Troy sixth at MVC golf super meet

CEDAR RAPIDS– Jordan Amelon led the Iowa City West High Women of Troy to a sixth-place finish in the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) Super Meet Tuesday, May 2, at the St. Andrews Golf Course in Cedar Rapids. Amelon, a senior, shot a 79 to lead West and earn medalist honors.

CEDAR FALLS– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) boy’s track and field team had a challenging evening Thursday, April 20, at the Cole Collinge Relays, in Cedar Falls. The varsity Creek Boys finished sixth in a nine-team field led by the host Tigers with 177 team points. Cedar Rapids Prairie (157), Waterloo West (82), Waverly-Shell Rock (73), Dike-New Hartford (66), the Clippers (53), Charles City (39), Mason City (38) and Waterloo East (37) rounded out the field.

Clipper girls fourth at Washington Meet

Stratton, Barker and the Rollers come home in runner-up spots

(CCA) girls track and field team placed fourth Thursday, April 20, at Washington’s 43rd annual girls meet. Benton Community won the meet with 139 team points, followed by Mount Pleasant (122), the host Demons (101), the Creek Girls (88), Fort Madison (69) and Albia (60).

Women of Troy 10-0 with win over Prairie Hawks

IC West bests CR Prairie, 3-1

CEDAR RAPIDS– Iowa City West High’s Women of Troy won their 10th game of the season and remained undefeated with a 3-1 win over Cedar Rapids Prairie at Prairie High School Monday, May 1.
Regan Steigleder scored on what Coach David Rosenthal described as, “a beautifully-placed header over the out-charging Prairie Hawk keeper in the 30th minute,” with an assist by Rachel Olson. Emma Cooper scored twice for West with assists from Leah Rhodes and Jen Kuehn.

Stu Ordman and Jamie (Printy) Brandt to lead the Lightning basketball program

NORTH LIBERTY– Liberty High School Principal Scott Kibby has announced two more additions to his coaching staff with the hiring of Jamie Brandt and Stu Ordman to head up the varsity girls and boys basketball programs, respectively.

Clipper boys fourth, girls sixth at WaMaC West golf tournament

McCarty leads CCA with 37 points

TAMA– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity boys’ golf team placed fourth in the eight-team field of the WaMaC West Tuesday, May 2, in the divisional golf tournament held in Tama.
Benton Community won the tourney with a total of 159, followed by Williamsburg (160), Independence (177), the Creek Boys (180), Center Point-Urbana (181), Vinton-Shellsburg (185), Marion (189) and South Tama (200).
Brandon McCarty led the Clippers with 37 and was the medalist runner-up behind Williamsburg’s Isaac Knock, who shot a 36.

Abby Jans honored on senior night for West High girls’ tennis

IOWA CITY– Senior night for Iowa City West High’s Abby Jans was made all the sweeter as the Women of Troy defeated their crosstown rivals, the Little Hawks of City High, 6-3, on Tuesday, May 2, at the University of Iowa’s tennis courts.
West Coach Amie Villarini noted it was the first win for West High against City since the first round of state competition in 2013. The win also boosted West’s record to 11-1 overall.

West High’s Dolson moves to Liberty High

NORTH LIBERTY– Liberty High School’s academic and athletic coaching staffs continue to grow ahead of the doors opening in August for the first school year. Principal Scott Kibby announced on Monday, April 10, that West High varsity volleyball coach Randy Dolson had joined his staff as both a special education teacher and as the varsity volleyball coach.

Liberty High Volleyball camps to be held in July and August

NORTH LIBERTY– Sign up now for Liberty High School volleyball camps, to be held in July and August.
The first camp, July 11-13, is for incoming grades sixth through eighth, while the second camp, Aug. 1-3, is for incoming high school students.
The $65 cost includes a T-shirt, but knee pads, shorts and volleyball or tennis shoes are recommended for the camps, which will take place at Liberty High School from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Bur Oak Land Trust Family Day Sunday, May 21

SOLON– Family Day with Bur Oak Land Trust will be hosted on Sunday, May 21, at the Turkey Creek Preserve. Admission is free and refreshments will be offered. There will also be seining in the creek and scavenger hunt with prizes.
Bur Oak Land Trust presents Family Day at Turkey Creek Preserve from 1-3 p.m. at 2545 Sugar Bottom Rd. NE in Solon.
Turkey Creek Preserve is 107.24 acres of woods and former pasture land, including five acres of reconstructed prairie which also has geocache locations.
