Trojans shell the J-Hawks at Lower Kingston

CEDAR RAPIDS– West High’s varsity Trojans improved to 7-2 overall Tuesday, April 25, on the road at Lower Kingston in Cedar Rapids where they pounded the winless Jefferson J-Hawks, 10-0.
Sam Choi opened the Trojans’ attack with a goal in the second minute of the first half and went on to complete the hat trick (three goals) later in the period. Choi finished with five goals. His second came in the sixth minute after the ball bounced off of the Jefferson keeper’s hands for a rebound shot.

WEST LIBERTY– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity boys golf team competed in West Liberty’s Invitational Tournament Tuesday, April 25, and came home in eighth place overall.
Central DeWitt won the meet with a total score of 320, followed by Wilton (335), West Branch (356), Winfield-Mount Union (356), Durant (358), Mid-Prairie (362), North Cedar (364), the Clippers (372), Iowa City Regina (388) and the host Comets (390).

CENTER POINT– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) girls’ track and field team placed eighth Monday, April 24, at Center Point-Urbana’s (CP-U) Stormin’ Pointer Invitational. Solon won the meet with 145 points, followed by CP-U (100), Maquoketa Valley (57), North Linn (50), Springville (48), Alburnett and Jesup (42 each), the Clippers (41), Monticello (36) and Central City (26).
The Rollers picked up the only wins for the Creek Girls with Andrea taking the high jump by clearing 4-8 and Mariah winning the discus with a 109-7 throw.

CEDAR RAPIDS– The Iowa City West High Women of Troy finished second in overall team points Monday, April 24, at Cedar Rapids Washington’s CRANDIC 9/10 track and field meet held at Kingston Stadium. Cedar Rapids Prairie won the girls’ meet with 135 points, followed by West (112), City High (104), Cedar Rapids Jefferson (68), Cedar Rapids Kennedy (65), Linn-Mar (51), the host Warriors (29) and Cedar Rapids Xavier (10).

IC West girls’ tennis tames Linn-Mar, 6-3, improves to 11-0 on the season

Women of Troy remain undefeated with win over Lions

MARION– Iowa City West High’s Women of Troy remained undefeated on the tennis court Tuesday, April 25, defeating the Linn-Mar Lions, 6-3. The win boosted West’s record to 11-0 overall, 8-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.
Abby Jans, Jessica Moonjely and Meg Moreland picked up individual wins in the meet.
West travels to Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Thursday, May 4, for a 4 p.m. dual meet and remains on the road with a Tuesday, May 9, trip to Dubuque Senior.
The Women of Troy host a Class 2A regional singles and doubles tournament Thursday, May 18, at 9 a.m.

IOWA CITY– The West High Women of Troy improved to 9-0 on the season and 5-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) with a pair of wins.
West bombed the Cedar Rapids Jefferson J-Hawks, 9-0, Tuesday, April 25, at home on Barker Field. West sank five goals in the first half and four in the second for the win, led by Regan Steigleder with four goals and one assist. Emma Cooper put in three goals and three assists. Carlin Morsch and Rachel Olson added one goal apiece. Morsch, Lexi Shaffer, Marnie Vonderhaar and Lizzie Raley each had assists.

IOWA CITY– Six team points separated Iowa City West High’s Trojans from West Des Moines Valley for the boys’ championship Thursday, April 20, at City High’s Forwald-Coleman Relays. The West High guys amassed 162 points for the win to Valley’s 156. Pleasant Valley was third with 115, followed by Linn-Mar (99), the host Little Hawks (81), Southeast Polk (60), Des Moines East (38) and Muscatine (26).
The Women of Troy took the girls’ runner-up spot behind team champion Waukee.

Welch and Dusterhoft win at Drake Relays

DES MOINES– Valerie Welch and Leah Dusterhoft won championships at the 2017 Drake Relays in Des Moines. The three-day event ran from Thursday, April 21, through Saturday, April 29, with middle school, high school, college, university and other athletes competing on the famous Blue Oval track at Drake University.

Creek Boys win Pacha Relays, girls second

Boys’ relays, Stratton and Schrock lead the Clippers at home meet

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s boys track and field team picked up their first team title of the season Thursday, April 27, at their home Pacha Relays. The Creek Boys won with 109 points, topping runner-up Solon (94), Monticello and Mount Vernon (88 points each), Tipton (81), Williamsburg (78), Iowa City Regina (70), Davenport Assumption (49), Wilton (38), the Clipper junior varsity (JV) squad (13) and Durant (12).

Tiffin citywide clean-up day Saturday, May 13

TIFFIN– The City of Tiffin’s city clean-up day will be Saturday, May 13, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. You will be required to bring your items down to the public works facility (11 Brown St.). If you are unable to bring your items to the city shed, you can schedule a pick-up with the Tiffin Fire Department. The department asks that you pay a fee of $25 per truckload. You will need to pay for the pick-up prior to May 13. Contact City Hall at 319-545-2572 ext. 1 to schedule a pickup. City Hall will only accept cash or check payments. Make your checks payable to the Tiffin Fire Department.
