Benton Community defeats Clear Creek Amana, 86-76

Creek Boys come up short against Bobcats

VAN HORNE– Darius Moore pounded in 32 points but Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity boys’ basketball team still dropped to 0-3 on the season Tuesday, Dec. 5, following an 86-76 loss to Benton Community in Van Horne.
The Clippers trailed throughout the contest, lagging behind, 16-9, at the end of the first period and suffered a 41-32 deficit at halftime. The Bobcats kept ahead, 66-48, going into the final period.
Nolan Schwarting had 17 points and eight rebounds for CCA, with nine points coming from Jordan Wolfe. T.J. Bollers contributed eight points and a dozen rebounds.

Clipper Wrestlers eighth in team points

CCA’s Stevens and Rohret earn 2nd-place finishes at N. Cedar Invitational

CLARENCE– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity wrestlers traveled to Clarence and North Cedar High School Saturday, Dec. 9, for the Knights’ Invitational Tournament and finished eighth in overall team points. Camanche won the tournament with 171.5 team points while the Creek Boys came up with 72.
Sam Stevens (113 pounds) and Andrew Rohret (145) both took runner-up in their weight classes, while Grant Haman (195) placed third, Tanner Cochran (220) was fourth and Jonah Upah (Heavyweight) was fifth in his class.

Lightning shocked by Panthers

Mount Pleasant boys upend Lib. High, 63-37

MOUNT PLEASANT– Liberty High’s varsity boys basketball team suffered its second loss of the season on Tuesday, Dec. 5, falling 63-37 on the road to the Panthers in Mount Pleasant.
The “Bolts” were tied, 11-11, at the end of the first period but trailed, 31-14, at halftime. Mount Pleasant was up, 50-21, after three periods.
Andre Brandon led the Lightning with 16 points, Moses Bolar produced 12, Bo Gryp, Ronnie Williams, Kelby Telander and Sam Funke had two points apiece, while Ethan O’Donnell scored one point.

Creek Boys rally, but fall short

CP-U nips CCA, 59-53

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity boys basketball team rallied back from a 60-31 halftime deficit, but still fell short of its first win of the 2017-18 season Friday, Dec. 8, as Center Point-Urbana (CP-U) visited Tiffin.
The Stormin’ Pointers won the contest 59-53 after building a 22-12 lead in the first period. CCA righted the ship in the third period, trailing only by four points at 43-39 going into the final quarter.
The win improved CP-U’s record to 3-1 while the Clippers dropped to 0-4.

Women of Troy top Tigers on the lanes

Little and Roth lead West High against Cedar Falls

IOWA CITY– The West High Women of Troy defended Colonial Lanes against the Cedar Falls Tigers Friday, Dec. 8, with a 2,217 to 2,196 varsity bowling win. Alexie Little led West and won the varsity girls match with 402.
The varsity boys fell 3,148 to 3,075, but West High’s Corey Roth won the match with 525.
West High’s junior varsity (JV) squads both fell, with the Tiger boys winning 2,783 to 1,873 and the Tiger girls winning 1,523 to 1,489. Brooklyn Day led the Women of Troy with 214 while Hunter Montgomery led the Trojans with 300.

Kaleb Williams goes 2-0 in double dual meet

FORT MADISON– Liberty High’s varsity wrestlers earned their second dual meet win on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Fort Madison over Mediapolis.
The Lightning zapped the Bulldogs, 45-21, as Kaleb Williams (138 pounds) took a 7-4 decision from Daryun Kreft and Ashton Barker (152) pinned Caden Benz in 2:28.

Trojans make waves at home

Griffis and Hajek post varsity wins for West in quad meet

CORALVILLE– West High’s Trojan boys swim team won its home quad meet against Dubuque Hempstead, Dubuque Senior and crosstown rival City High Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Coralville Recreation Center.
The varsity Trojans won their meet with 181 points, topping City High’s 129 while the junior varsity (JV) Trojans dominated the field with 203 points. Dubuque Senior was a very distant second with 94 team points.

Prairie Hawks sweep bowling Trojans

West High’s Roth wins varsity boys meet against Prairie Hawks

CEDAR RAPIDS– Iowa City West High’s bowlers fell to the Prairie Hawks of Cedar Rapids Prairie Friday, Dec. 1, at Lancer Lanes in Cedar Rapids. Prairie’s varsity boys won 3,003 to 2,927 with West High’s Corey Roth winning the meet with 492. Prairie’s junior varsity (JV) boys won 2,186 to 1,855 with Daniel Neese leading the Trojans with 307. West’s varsity girls fell 3,062 to 2,373 with Alexie Little leading West High with 397 and the JV girls fell to Prairie 2,118 to 1,121 with Jordynn Brackett leading the Trojans with 252.

Liberty boys fall to Waterloo West

Wahawks short-out the Lightning 79-69

NORTH LIBERTY– Liberty High’s first varsity boys basketball team dropped to 1-1 Friday, Dec. 1, after falling 79-69 to the Waterloo West Wahawks in its first home game.
The Bolts trailed throughout the contest, lagging behind 19-8 at the end of the first period, and down 37-27 at halftime. Liberty narrowed the gap in the third period and was only down six points at 53-47 going into the final quarter.

CCA’s Baker picked to coach All-Star Game

Shrine All-Star Game showcases Iowa’s football best, benefits Shriners Hospitals

CEDAR FALLS– The 46th annual Iowa Shrine All-Star Football Game will be played on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the UNI-Dome, in Cedar Falls. The Iowa High School Football Coaches Association selected the coaches and players for the game that raises money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
