Hawkeyes women

Hawk Talk

The Iowa women had two games last week.
They started out with a road trip to 13th-ranked Maryland and lost, 80-64.
You start with the balance Maryland has. They came into the game with seven players averaging double figures.
Iowa only has seven players in the rotation.
The Hawks tied Maryland with points in the paint at 30 apiece, but the Terrapins had a 29-7 advantage on points off turnovers as Iowa turned the ball over 23 times.

Wrestlers take down Spartans

Hawk Talk

The Hawkeye wrestlers took down Michigan State last Friday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, 49-6, which included six pins, but the big news was the debut of super freshman, Spencer Lee.
Spencer was rated the top recruit in the nation last year and the Hawks did a great job of recruiting him.
The only problem was… Spencer got a pin in 46 seconds.
The crowd still exploded for the freshman from Pennsylvania.

Memories of a colder time

“Specialist Fleck, grab your coat and come with me,” the General ordered in no uncertain tone.
To his face, everyone addressed him simply as sir, as in “Yes, sir!” Behind his back, we called him Crazy Eddie. The only thing worse than a loose cannon on deck is a loose cannon wearing a general’s star, and that was General Edward O’Conner.
His staff feared and dreaded him.

The other resolution

New Year’s Resolutions are hard enough to keep when you are by yourself and nobody is going to see if you cheat or not, but this one can be even more difficult when you are in the company of others. Others who have the same bad habit you are trying to conquer. I’m talking about smoking and the things we all go through trying to rationalize our bad habit while, at the same time, trying to escape it.

Iowa breaks drought with comeback over Boston College, 27-20

The bowl steak of losing five straight was snapped as the Hawkeyes took care of business in the second half, beating Boston College last week in the Pinstripe Bowl in New York City.
When I am watching a game, I’m thinking of different headlines.
Before the game, when I thought the Hawkeyes would win, I was going with “Finally.”
After the second quarter was over and Iowa was not looking good and trailing 17-10, I thought “Not again.”
