Welcome Hoover Trail

Phase 1 & II construction bids received by county conservation board

SOLON– The Hoover Trail is on its way, but how will the City of Solon move bicyclists through town?
Answers will be forthcoming, but a glimpse into the future was offered at a Dec. 20 Solon City Council meeting.
City Engineer Dave Schechinger’s preliminary trail plan addressed how to link the Hoover Trail, the Iowa River Corridor Trail and Sutliff Road with businesses and services in Solon, as well as how the Hoover Trail might exit town to the southeast.

Confinement sites sign up

DES MOINES– Counties interested in evaluating construction permits for proposed animal feeding facilities must adopt and submit a construction evaluation resolution to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) between Jan. 1 and 31.
About 87 counties pass a resolution each year, which allows them to review construction permit applications required for larger totally roofed animal feeding operations (confinements).

Ice safety reminder

DES MOINES– The recent blast of arctic air is growing ice on lakes and ponds over much of Iowa. Anglers are starting to get out for the popular early ice fishing of the season.
“Many of us look forward to ice fishing each winter,” said Joe Larscheid, chief of fisheries for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR). “It is a fun, social activity best enjoyed with family and friends.”

About those resolutions

Food For Thought

If you’re like most of us, you’ve already fudged a little on one or more of the resolutions you so bravely made just a few days ago. We all like the feeling of being able to wipe the slate clean and start the new year fresh and guilt-free. But too often those well-meant promises we make to ourselves turn out to be a lot harder to honor than they were to make. I’d like to pass on some thoughts about New Year Resolutions, things that I’ve learned from experience and things that persons much wiser than I have shared with me over the years.
