NORTH LIBERTY– Liberty High fielded its first baseball team, at the freshman level, last spring and will enter varsity competition for the first time this year. The “Bolts” have a big man at the helm in Head Coach Tom Cronk.

VAN HORNE– Weather concerns prompted postponement of the 2018 WaMaC Conference Track and Field Super Meet from Thursday, May 3, at Solon to Monday, May 7, with the West Division competing at Benton Community High School, in Van Horne.
Center Point-Urbana won the varsity boys meet and the junior varsity (JV) boys and girls meet, while Williamsburg won the varsity girls meet.
The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity boys were eighth overall, the JV boys were seventh, the JV girls squad was fourth and the varsity girls were seventh in team points.

IOWA CITY– The Iowa City West High Women of Troy dropped to 1-10 after suffering their fourth consecutive loss on Tuesday, May 8, at home, as the Dubuque Senior Rams took a 3-1 win.
Rachel Olson, a junior, scored West’s goal from an assist by Kennedy Hochstedler with 19:14 remaining in the second half. It was Olson’s second goal of the season, only the fourth team goal overall, after a 3-1 win on April 24 against Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
The Rams improved to 7-5.

It started in the 1930s when his grandfather Bob listened to Hawkeye football on the radio.
Ozzie Simmons was the star running back out of Texas playing for Iowa from 1934-36 and one of Bob’s favorite players.
Ozzie is one of the reason Iowa plays Minnesota for the Floyd of Rosedale trophy.
The Gophers, a national football power at the time, had pounded the Hawks 48-12 in 1934 in Iowa City.
Tensions were high after that game and Ozzie was a target of the Minnesota players’ wrath and insults.

IOWA CITY– Young farmers in Johnson County raised their voices loud and clear to the board of supervisors: change or scrap the county’s agricultural exemption policy.
The young guns blazed away during a Thursday, May 10, public hearing on the proposed county comprehensive plan, citing the immense difficulties many budding farmers encounter in trying to purchase 40 acres (the minimum amount of land required to be considered a “farm” in Johnson County).
