Spring scrimmage

Hawk Talk

Last Saturday, the Hawkeye football team finished their spring workout with a scrimmage at Kinnick Stadium.
To me, the two most important thing that came out of the scrimmage was that C.J. Beathard injured his shoulder in practice last week and couldn’t play, plus Ryan Boyle, who was Class 4A offensive player of the year from Des Moines Dowling, has moved to wide receiver.
With C.J. out, it opened the door to let Tyler Wiegers get a lot of snaps with the first-team offense.

The deputies

Law enforcement agencies in Johnson County are embracing the concept of Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), an educational program for law enforcement officers which expands their ability to deal safely and effectively with people experiencing a mental health crisis.

The demise of downtown

Food For Thought

It used to be every little town had a business area centered around a park, a courthouse, municipal offices, schools or churches. My hometown of Knoxville still has its castle-like county courthouse, but the business area is rapidly disappearing as the outlying shopping malls, motels and fast food businesses pop up at an amazingly rapid rate.
