Ain’t no cure like the summertime blues

By Lori Lindner
North Liberty Leader
NORTH LIBERTY– Dust off your blues shoes; the Sixth Annual North Liberty Blues & BBQ festival will take place near Liberty Centre Park & Pond on May 26, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the musical lineup is ready to get the house a-rockin.
The festival brings in the best local and regional musicians, and admission is always free. This year’s talent includes professional musicians with loyal followings and years of experience, as well as some young performers fresh to the festival stage.

Senior care center seeks to locate in NL

NORTH LIBERTY– While North Liberty grew to a population of over 13,000 in recent years and has gained many commercial entities, one amenity it still lacks is a skilled nursing facility for the elderly.
There are senior residential facilities and housing with contractual services available for seniors, but North Liberty has yet to welcome its own nursing home.

Temporary solution

IOWA CITY– Van Allen Elementary uses theirs to store PTO supplies. Penn Elementary has three units for classes. After an inventory last week by Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD) administrators, five were found that could be shuffled and used for classrooms at Penn, Lemme, and Grant Wood schools.
The five portable classrooms were deemed underutilized in their current locations and possibly bound for the three packed elementary schools in 2013-2014.

Flock to the Bluebird

NORTH LIBERTY— Nothing could be finer than breakfast in the diner, or “café” in this case. Following the success of Iowa City’s Bluebird Diner, now fine feathered friends in North Liberty can also partake of the cuisine and atmosphere of the Bluebird Café. Lacey Willis, one of the three owners, said she has been considering the new café since construction began in Liberty Centre’s Stonebridge Promenade.
“I saw the plaza being built and thought the market for breakfast wasn’t being met in North Liberty.” She said, “(The city) needed a spot for breakfast and another option for good food.”

Wet win for Clipper girls

By Chris Umscheid
North Liberty Leader
TIFFIN– It rained. It poured. And through it all, the Clippers scored.
Despite four rain showers including a torrential downpour with 30-40 mph wind gusts, Sarah Bleeker’s 12th-ranked Clear Creek Amana (CCA) girls’ varsity soccer team prevailed. The Clippers shut-out the visiting Mount Vernon Mustangs, 6-0.

Clipper boys win 2-1 against Solon

By Chris Umscheid
North Liberty Leader
TIFFIN– Sometimes a loss can rejuvenate a team and spur them on to victory the next go-around. For the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) boys varsity soccer squad, a recent loss to West Delaware may have added a little more fuel to their fire Thursday evening as friendly rival Solon came to town.
“We remembered how to win,” coach Tim Benson said after CCA’s 2-1 WaMaC victory, the first over the Spartans in recent years and a much better showing than last year’s blow-out in Solon.
