September Book Club selection

The September selection for the Solon Area Book Club is “Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal,” by Christopher Moore. This divinely hilarious yet heartfelt work is reminiscent of Vonnegut and Douglas Adams. No one knows about the early life of the Son of God except Biff, the Messiah’s best bud, who proceeds to tell the story.

Movie Clips

The computer glitch from the week of Aug. 6 has the staff a little behind in cataloging, so there’s only one new movie this week, and since it’s an animated title, here are three other older animated films that you’ll love to watch again or watch for the first time. The kids will love them, but adults will too. All are rated PG.

Ely Fire Dept. hosts Waterball Fights

ELY– For as long as there have been firefighters, there has been competition between fire companies. In the earliest days of organized departments, fist fights often broke out between competing companies to see who would put out the fire. Later firefighters would square-off in contests such as working hand-powered pumpers to see who could shoot a stream of water the furthest.
Then came waterball fights.
