Early out movie tomorrow

The early out program for Thursday, April 5, will be a movie, “Puss in Boots,” (Rated PG) showing in the meeting room. Movie time will be from 1 until 3 p.m. Fun and free early-out activities are for all Solon students. There is no registration. Children under the age of 10 attending the movie need to be picked up by parents or caregivers at 3 p.m.

Easter animals for sale

As you stop in the lobby to check out the items on the used book cart, notice a large assortment of Easter stuffed animals for sale. They will be there through April 7 for your purchase.

Solon area book club

Solon book club will meet April 17 to discuss “Abide with Me” by Elizabeth Strout. All interested adult readers are welcome to attend. Smart money seminar

During smart money week, Solon Library will offer, “Take Control of your Finances: 101” on Thursday, April 26, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. The library will host representatives from local financial institutions and businesses to discuss basic finance in conjunction with smart money week. Representatives from the local banks as well as financial advisors will be on hand to answer questions about how to check or improve your credit score, how much should you save for retirement, when is it best to refinance and how to set up a college fund for your grandchildren. Everyone is welcome.

New fiction list

Please check the list of new books on the shelf for additional titles in the fiction category including “Another Piece of My Heart” by Jane Green, “Blue Monday” by Nicci French, “Chasing Midnight” by Randy Wayne White, “Dark Places” by Gillian Flynn, “Gilly Salt Sisters” by Tiffany Baker, “Poison Flower” by Thomas Perry and “Running The Maze” by Jack Coughlin. Titles of interest that are not on the shelf may be reserved by placing a hold on them at the circulation desk.

Movie Clips

“Melancholia” (2011, R, Drama/SciFi) Kirstin Dunst stars as one of two sisters who find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide with the Earth.
“Three Musketeers” (2011, PG13, Action/Romance) The hot-headed young D’Artagnan, along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers, must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.

“The Mixing Bowl” display makes debut

The Solon Public Library has a new exhibit, “The Mixing Bowl,” dedicated to the Solon Women’s Club. The display portrays a 1938 era Solon kitchen on a late spring morning. Breakfast is nearly finished, and preparations are underway for Sunday dinner. The lilacs are blooming beside the spicy yellow currant shrubs and flowering quince. Blue bells and violets cover front lawns, but the early blue irises are just emerging. The apricot trees have blossoms, followed by the plum and apple trees.

First, second grade vocal concerts

The first and second grade students will be performing a vocal concert on Thursday, April 12. The first graders will perform at 6:30 p.m. and the second graders will perform at 7:30 p.m., in the Lakeview gymnasium. Join them in sharing music that focuses on beginning steps to reading music. Both concerts will feature songs that have students practicing their skills with using the notes of a major scale. Students will also use their skills to play boomwhackers, which use those eight notes to accompany their songs.
