Grief group to meet Jan. 25 at FUMC

NORTH LIBERTY– Have you had a loss in your life, either a death of a loved one or a relationship? Would you like to talk to others that are also struggling with the holidays? If so, please come to the First United Methodist Church in North Liberty, 85 N. Jones Blvd., on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. in the library to meet with others who are struggling. City officials alert residents of recent buglaries

TIFFIN– In a City of Tiffin press release on Thursday, Jan. 19, city officials alerted residents of multiple burglaries in Tiffin.
According to the release, there have been a string of burglaries recently in Tiffin. Vehicles have been broken into and items have been stolen.
Any suspiscious activity should be reported to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Non-Emergency line (319-356-6800).
City officials urged residents to protect their property by locking all doors.

Citywide snowman contest Dec. 1-Feb. 28

NORTH LIBERTY– Build a snowman in any city park or your yard between Dec. 1 and Feb. 28, take a photo and submit it to Jason Egly at jegly@northlibertyiowa.org along with your name, contact information and where the snowman was built. Entries will be displayed at the North Liberty Community Center and online to be judged by recreation staff.The winning family receives prize!

2017 pet tags now available

NORTH LIBERTY– It is now time to purchase your pet tags for 2017. Cats and dogs are required to wear tags that may be purchased at city hall for $2. Owners must provide verification of their pet being spayed/neutered to receive this rate. A nonspayed/nonneutered pet requires a fee of $25.
A tag provides identification in the event a pet is lost. The registration of an animal helps the city to ensure that all animals in the city are up to date with vaccines.
Dogs and cats must be kept on their owners’ property or on a leash at all times. Pets found “at large” will be impounded.

Iowa DOT approves justification for Hwy. 6 signalization

THE ISSUE
Since construction was completed at the Highway 6 and Ireland Avenue/Roberts Ferry Road intersection, there have been concerns by Clear Creek Amana and City of Tiffin officials, as well as by community members, about the safety of the crosswalks.

Multiple discussions in late 2016 led to a traffic study to determine whether or not the intersection warranted traffic lights..

WHAT WE KNEW
According to a traffic study by Hart Frederick Consultants, as many as 75 students use the intersection daily.

Performers wanted for Bill Riley State Fair Talent Search in Tiffin

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Fine Arts and Music Enhancers (FAME) will host a Bill Riley State Fair Talent Search qualifying show on Saturday, March 4, at the CCA High School Performing Arts Center. Priority will be given to Clear Creek Amana district students, CCA alumni and CCA area preschoolers. There will be 15 available slots in each of the two divisions. Performers will be accepted on a first come, first served basis until all spots have been filled.

CCA HS accepting open enrollment

OXFORD– Students from outside the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) school district will again be able to open enroll into the district and attend the high school in Tiffin.
The district’s school board of directors approved the “Insufficient Space” policy for the 2017-2018 school year at their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Clear Creek Elementary (CCE) in Oxford.

Chuck Deisbeck makes move from Western Iowa to become CEO

NORTH LIBERTY– Chuck Deisbeck was called to the telecommunications industry at a young age– when he was just 8 years old to be exact.
Beginning in third grade, he spent many an afternoon rebuilding phones and installing jacks alongside his older brother for a business his father managed.
“We were kind of his hired hands but didn’t get paid,” said Deisbeck, with a laugh. “By eighth grade, I was climbing poles, and running boring machines and backhoes.”

Williamsburg man charged in accidental shooting

NORTH LIBERTY– One week after an accidental shooting in North Liberty, charges have been filed.
Authorities identified Nicholas P. Wombacher, 19, of Williamsburg, as the individual who allegedly shot another 19-year-old male last week in the Golfview Mobile Home Court.

Lady Spartans shine at Central DeWitt, struggle against No. 1 Regina, W. Dubuque

Ranked foes lay 29-point losses on Solon girls

SOLON– In this case, one out of three ain’t bad.
Solon’s Lady Spartan varsity basketball team defeated Central DeWitt on the road Jan. 17, but ran into the ranked buzzsaws of Western Dubuque (No. 8, 4A) and Iowa City Regina (No. 1, 2A) over the weekend for a pair of 29-point losses.
Western Dubuque, 11-1 entering the game, throttled the Lady Spartans in the second and third periods on the way to a 65-36 win Friday, Jan. 20. The Regals, sporting a 14-0 record, cruised to a 71-42 victory Saturday, Jan. 21, as part of a traditional boys/girls doubleheader.
