Hawkeye women one and done

Hawk Talk

This wasn’t the way I thought the season would end for the Iowa women’s basketball team.
The Hawks were on a roll, playing their best basketball and winning seven straight before losing to Minnesota 90-89 in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.
It was a matchup of the Iowa inside game with All-American Megan Gustafson and the depth of the Creighton guards.
Megan came through with 29 points and 17 rebounds, playing all 40 minutes in Iowa’s 76-70 loss.
Iowa dominated the paint with a 36-22 advantage and had a 39-28 advantage on the glass.

Lee is champion

Hawk Talk

Spencer Lee took care of business at the NCAA wrestling championships in Cleveland last weekend. He capped of a five-match run with a 5-1 victory in the finals at 125 pounds.
Talk about domination.
Two technical falls, both were 18-0 wins.
Spencer followed that up with a pin over sixth-ranked Nick Piccininni (Oklahoma State), and a pin over second-ranked Nathan Tomasello, who beat Spencer in the Big Ten championship, 3-2.
The finals saw Spencer jump out to a 5-0 lead over fourth-ranked Nick Suriano and won, 5-1.
How about Spencer scoring 60 points and giving up four?

AAADD or a runaway train?

Food For Thought

Being one of those people they refer to when they say someone can’t walk and chew gum at the same time, I used to think that implied a lack of physical coordination, but I’m more inclined to believe it’s a matter of having a one-track mind. There may be people who can drive a car and talk on a cellphone simultaneously, but I know myself well enough to know I’m not one of them. I can’t even read the newspaper and drink coffee at the same time. Sip. Read. Sip. Read. Throw in a doughnut and watch me short-circuit.
